The U.S. Supreme Court recently ruled that the need for the Second Amendment is most acute in the home, where self, family and property must be protected.
But now Maryland gun regulators are insisting that anyone who wants to defend his home with a firearm must have a month of special training.
A group called Maryland Shall Issue Inc. has filed a lawsuit contending the training requirement violates the Second Amendment.
Arguing a right delayed is a right denied, Alan Gottlieb, founder of the Second Amendment Foundation and chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, or CCRKBA, explained the licensing process is expensive and lengthy.
His groups are part of a coalition that has filed a friend-of-the-court brief in the case. The coalition also includes the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association, International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors and Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership.
No citizen should have to jump through so many hoops simply to have a gun in their own home, Gottlieb said. There were no such requirements or regulations in Maryland at the time the Constitution was ratified, and the current regulatory scheme seems more intended to discourage responsible firearms ownership than guarantee that gun owners safely handle their firearms.
Gottlieb said the training requirement in Maryland imposes a burden on a citizens ability to exercise his or her Second Amendment rights.

Seriously? Cops don’t get 30 days of firearms training before they’re sent out to enforce the law. Hell, most of the cops and agents I’ve worked with hated their recurring qualification requirements, much less firearms training.
Especially the expense. I think I spent around $90 for a few hours of concealed carry. But 30 DAYS??? What's THAT gonna cost??
In 30 days you could train a lot of people the skills to make their own guns.
“shall not be infringed”
I own a Glock. What's a safety?
You are correct. Id say that in most Police academies they spend about 60 hours max on firearms training. The law on use of force and justification might add a few hours to that.
On the other hand, Id argue that many police officers are ill trained on firearms. Those who dont train and practice on their own initiative and rely solely on basic training and annual qualification are marginal, at best. It like keeping physically fit. You have to invest your own time and effort.
I oppose the idea of requiring training so one can exercise his or her 2nd Amendment rights. That doesnt mean that one shouldnt endeavor to get and continue training on ones own. Its the responsible thing to do.
I agree with training but this is obviously a cost and time prohibited measure to prevent access to guns.
Oh, the same special training cops get? That’d be dangerous right there.
well, we could always counter with 30 days of training required to vote.
Gun rights are in the Constitution - Voting rights are not.
Sounds like Special High Intensity Training.
What is notable we have 0 problems. Absolutely NO incidents or issues with constitutional carry since enacted. No surprising since that is the same everywhere else with proper law.
My only conclusion is that the politicians and the pig metro cops in Maryland are racist regressive fascists who have to constantly lie to get their way. May God grant them horrible painful deaths for their sins.
I like that idea !!!
I Posted this Yesterday.
Now Im waiting for the PTB to make EVERYBODY READ AND UNDERSTAND PLAIN ENGLISH, HAVE EVERYBODY READ AND COMPREHEND THE 2nd Amendment TO THE U.S. CONSTITUTION.
Then they need to disband the Bad Attitude Towards Freedom & Equality.
The poor displaced jerks can empty Trash Cans in National Parks and Clean the Restrooms.
Distribute all the Toys to Poor/Low Income NON GANG MEMBERS.
“I agree with training”
Do you agree with government required training?
Maryland has no such regulation.
They do “require” guns to be locked with children in the home who have not passed hunter safety.
Our home school did not participate in federal gun free school zones.
The legislature is a total corrupt clown show here, but this is the first time I’ve heard of this. It’s probably some new proposed legislation. Fortunately, the legislature by law only meets 90 days a year. It’s unimaginable the damage they could do otherwise.
If it didn’t cost so much, I’d be in favor of two years of training for everyone, to be completed in such places as Ft. Campbell, Ft. Sam, Leavenworth, Lackland, Quantico....
Grossly unconstitutional.
I counter your comment with: “It’s Maryland and they’re dems.” ;-)
If it’s not mandated, fine.
I just went to Marylandshooters.com and Maryland Shall Issue. I didn’t see any mention of any new 30 day training proposal.
Both these organizations stay well on top of this garbage.
Thirty days of training? In the USAF in 1966 we only got 1 day’s rifle training and shooting. 1/2 day for later handgun training.
They called it good with a refresher course each year.
