WASHINGTON Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh sat in the anteroom of Room 216 in the Hart Senate Office Building, a sterile, living-room-like space with a couch and a couple of armchairs and a large television on the wall. His chances of joining the Supreme Court seemed to be vanishing. Disaster, read the text message from one Republican.
Christine Blasey Ford had just finished testifying that he had tried to force himself on her as a teenager, and nearly everyone in both camps found her credible, sincere and sympathetic. President Trump called Senator Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader, and they agreed she was impressive. Were only at halftime, Mr. McConnell said, trying to be reassuring.
Mr. Trump thought it was time to bring in the F.B.I. to investigate, as many opponents of Judge Kavanaugh had urged, but when he called the Hart Building, Donald F. McGahn II, his White House counsel, refused to take the call. Instead, Mr. McGahn cleared the room and sat down with Judge Kavanaugh and his wife, Ashley Kavanaugh. The only way to save his nomination, Mr. McGahn said, was to show the senators how he really felt, to channel his outrage and indignation at the charges he had denied.
Judge Kavanaugh did not need convincing. He was brimming with rage and resentment, so when he went before the Senate Judiciary Committee, he did not hold back. His fire-and-fury performance you have replaced advice and consent with search and destroy suddenly turned the tables. While Democrats thought he went too far, demoralized Republicans were emboldened again. In their war room, White House aides watching on television cheered and pumped their fists.

Sorry Slimeballs, real Americans are fed up and waking up.
I find this refrain so aggravating. What was credible? Her now debunked fear of flying? Her lack of knowledge of a California interview offer? Her lies about polygraphs? Her overall vagueness of the event? Sincere and impressive? Her teenage vocal fry was impressive in that she kept it up the entire hearing, although not shedding a tear over a horrible event "seared in her memory". The obligatory ass kissing of this fraud is nauseating.
Durbin, like the Clintons, is projecting and following the Alinksky formula.
The NYT - still one of media’s most thorough news outlets although hopelessly Leftist Liars.
But this article is pretty good, giving insight into Kavanaugh’s nomination, although they can’t help but diss Trump. No matter what happens, it seems the NYT’s would rather disintegrate than give Trump his just credit.
GOD BLESS PRESIDENT TRUMP!
Judge Kav is a bad man for resenting a woman lying about him. So says the NYTimes.
Kavanaugh was in a lose/lose situation. If he hadn't shown his passion, they would've said he was cold hearted and capable of a crime. When he did show passion, the argument there was it wasn't "judicial".
He was in a bad situation. The only thing was to beat them at their own game. He became emotional about his good name being destroyed and for what his wife, children, and parents had to go through. It was a risk, for sure, but the only way to humanize him.
No one in the administration refuses to take-a call from the POTUS
Very well stated Civil. I cringe every time I hear someone say, “Well, I believe something happened to her at some time.” I don’t believe her for a moment.
It is helping me sort out who are the PC folks on the radio, internet, etc.
If Sybil is so credible how come they need to hide her away?
I agree it was a pretty good article but I also believe it is a work of fiction in many respects. All the trappings of real but not journalism, it reads more like a novel. There is zero chance either of the authors would know any of this so they took a few things that someone told them and stitched together a story. It is however, a good read. Like a lead in for a mystery novel.
...thank you for allowing me to make my statement. I wrote it myself yesterday afternoon and evening. No one has seen a draft, or it, except for one of my former law clerks.
THAT is the truth!
The source is called Fake News for a reason.
There is clearly some inside info here that, if true, the NYT sure as hell should not know about it. As for Donald F. McGahn if he refused a call from the POTUS good advice or not he’s out.
Whether you like it or not, most folks believe something happened to her... but as to whether it was Kavanaugh... thats a different story.. but the problem is, even empathy toward her, does not mean you destroy a man over an allegation with no corroboration.. secondly even if folks believe the allegation in its entirety... most women do not believe a drunken teen groping while not proper does not equates to being a sexual predator and destroying a mans life.
The Dems grossly overplayed and most of America, including most women arent buying it, but that doesnt mean that most do not believe something happened to Ms Ford.
you have replaced advice and consent with search and destroy
Best line of the proceedings.
She was laughing during testimony and not a nervous laugh.
Anyone who thought Blowsy Ford was not lying has to be brain dead.
True, he did save the day with his heat of a lion. And McConnell and Graham 2.0 really encouraged me. Watch Collins speech was the final reaoration of my faith in our system. That could be a temporary star but I am proud today
