WASHINGTON Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh sat in the anteroom of Room 216 in the Hart Senate Office Building, a sterile, living-room-like space with a couch and a couple of armchairs and a large television on the wall. His chances of joining the Supreme Court seemed to be vanishing. Disaster, read the text message from one Republican.
Christine Blasey Ford had just finished testifying that he had tried to force himself on her as a teenager, and nearly everyone in both camps found her credible, sincere and sympathetic. President Trump called Senator Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader, and they agreed she was impressive. Were only at halftime, Mr. McConnell said, trying to be reassuring.
Mr. Trump thought it was time to bring in the F.B.I. to investigate, as many opponents of Judge Kavanaugh had urged, but when he called the Hart Building, Donald F. McGahn II, his White House counsel, refused to take the call. Instead, Mr. McGahn cleared the room and sat down with Judge Kavanaugh and his wife, Ashley Kavanaugh. The only way to save his nomination, Mr. McGahn said, was to show the senators how he really felt, to channel his outrage and indignation at the charges he had denied.
Judge Kavanaugh did not need convincing. He was brimming with rage and resentment, so when he went before the Senate Judiciary Committee, he did not hold back. His fire-and-fury performance you have replaced advice and consent with search and destroy suddenly turned the tables. While Democrats thought he went too far, demoralized Republicans were emboldened again. In their war room, White House aides watching on television cheered and pumped their fists.

Trump didn’t say impressive, he said compelling.
I think he’s wearing he’s media analyst hat when he said that, something he knows a lot about. And it’s good he did say that as it helped propel the need for Kavanaugh to provide a counter narrative, without which I don’t think you get Senators like Collins, Flake or Manchin off the fence and supporting him, because they too are making political calculations based, in part, on the effect that both of their testimonies had on their voters.
But they overplayed their hand and the Republicans shoved the knight up their a**.
Kavanaugh got confirmed and Republicans are energized and a pissed off electorate is going to be hard on the Democrats come November.
Even worse, their paid liars were obviously lying so their story did not hold up to scrutiny and were they were too transparent in their false, manufactured narrative.
For once the Republicans are showing some spine and they are going to investigate and probably expose the shoddy and ill concealed Democrat conspiracy to bring down the nomination. This is going to really hurt the Democrat's strategy of destroying the opposition with false claims of sexual abuse going forward.
As I mentioned the other day on a thread: I was in rural Missouri at a Salon my wife uses when we are here. There were six staff and six or eight patrons and the TV was on showing he Christine Ford questioning. Not one of these women believed her. It was over for them before the Judge testified.
Completely agree
Shes a lying sack of shit
It took a week to train her
Demoncats cant escape the crush of media now
Their minions dont control it anymore
Only television and newspapers
Yeah, pretty much everyone with an IQ above that of a head of lettuce knew the whole thing was a very badly thrown together pack of lies but hard core, end justifies the means Democrats pretended to believe because they were desperate to keep BK off the Court and Republicans pretended to accept Ford’s testimony as the credible testimony of a traumatized victim with a flawed memory and a case of mistaken identity because the old, white Republican were desperate to avoid alienating women voters right before the November elections, especially after the Roy Moore special election debacle
Good catch. You’re right caww...
Great point. This is a very inside stuff.
In my opinion, it was the ‘beers’ that saved it.
>> Remember, most Perjurers come across as Credible, especially the ones coached by their Attorneys.
There’s a recent FR post referencing a YouTube video that analyzes Ford’s Senate spiel. It was great, but I lost and can’t locate the thread. Ugh...
The analyst often made reference to Ford’s “pretty pose” among other manipulation techniques. The analyst was excellent.
I scanned the first part - The point of this article is to make Trump look stupid and make Kavanaugh out to be a phony.
I hope nobody bothers reading it.
The single most memorable takeaway from the hearings. That turned the tide for Kav.
I call BS on this story. I remember Kavanaugh saying he wrote his testimony and only shared it with a former clerk for editing purposes. This testimony would not have been done in a few hours. It was finished before he left his house to go to the Senate building. Trump would never have conceded to the FBI supplemental prior to Kavanaugh testifying.
“The enemy of the truth isn’t a lie, it’s the almost true”
...and that’s deception...Demorats ‘always’ speak half-truths.
Yep...and I’ll say again....With a heart of a lion Kavannaugh confronted evil and won.
Yep...and I’ll say again....With a heart of a lion Kavannaugh confronted evil and won.
Best line. Even Trump used it.
Rush sure thinks it was the turning point.
Imagine if BK went first and Ford second? She did him a favor by not wanting him in the room as she gave her testimony.
And search and destroy comment was in his first 5 min.
