Washington (CNN) Thursday was a very good day for Brett Kavanaugh -- maybe his best day since being chosen as Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee back in July. Friday was even better, as his confirmation to the court appeared to be sealed with three key senators deciding he's worthy of being confirmed....
...So what would it mean if Kavanaugh is confirmed Saturday? Two main things.
1. Kavanaugh on the Court would fundamentally reshape it in a more conservative direction for potentially decades to come. Lost amid the massive political fight occasioned by the allegations by Ford and Ramirez is the fact that Kavanaugh is without question more conservative than the man he is replacing -- Anthony Kennedy. Whereas Kennedy was regarded as the swing vote on the court for many years, Kavanaugh's ascension would change all that. There would likely be a relatively reliable 5-4 conservative majority on the court.
2. Trump would be a big winner. Circumstances have conspired to hand Trump a major opportunity: To put two justices on the Supreme Court within his first two years in office....
The Point: There are no asterisks next to the names of the members of the Supreme Court. Whether you got there on a unanimous Senate vote or barely survived, your vote still counts the same. And when that vote is one of only nine on the most important court in the country, with no term limits, it counts a whole hell of a lot.

Breyer and Ruth Buzzy are both not long for this world.
If Trump get two terms he will fill both of their seats.
I want as many of the Gang of Four replaced by the Donald as possible.
Then we can talk about Thomas and Alito retiring.
If they retake Congress and the White House, and they find the Court too conservative, they'll likely try to pack it. E.g., expand the Court to 11 justices and add two more liberals, so that 5-4 conservative becomes 6-5 liberal.
The number of justices is not specified in the Constitution. It was set at nine by the Judiciary Act of 1869, and has remained at nine since, although in 1937 Roosevelt tried to expand it to 15. There needs to be an amendment to fix the number of justices at nine. Or maybe to establish an inflexible formula, e.g., something involving the logarithm of the population.
In that bunch, Thomas is the only one I have compete confidence in. Primarily due to his established record. He’s our strongest anchor in the Constitution.
Yes. “The Taxman.”
Yes but Roberts is to the right of Kennedy. Roberts dissented from Kennedy on gay marriage.
Alioto is just a conservative as Thomas.
Well, that’s good! Still and all, I hope both are with us for a bit longer!
I assume DJT will be reelected in 2020 and would not be surprised in the least to see him have four or even five nominees. Look at the ages of the Justices! Breyer is 80, Ginsberg is 85; Sotomayor is only 64 but not healthy. Woo knows ?
The biggest, ugliest ever will be when President Trump gets to nominate Ginsberg’s replacement (which can’t be soon enough!)
At this point, I certainly wouldnt want Kavanaugh to.
The attempted character assassination means that Kavanaugh will not be captured by the NE media, who he now understands tried to murder him and his family, in effect. They lost the chance to get another Kennedy, if that was ever on the table.
I just hope his choices get more and more conservative.
Especially when the trip is somehow connected with democrats.
And a local JP who never even saw the body but certified he died of natural causes.
Fixed.
Opening number "I wanna go keggin' with Kagan".
Hopefully Thomas will mentor him. :)
I think they already did that to Scalia
