Kavanaugh pens Op-ed: I Am an Independent, Impartial Judge 'Yes I was emotional'
Wall Street Journal ^ | Oct 4, 2018 | Brett Kavanaugh

Posted on 10/04/2018 4:56:53 PM PDT by CondoleezzaProtege

I was deeply honored to stand at the White House July 9 with my wife, Ashley, and my daughters, Margaret and Liza, to accept President Trump’s nomination to succeed my former boss and mentor, Justice Anthony Kennedy, on the Supreme Court. My mom, Martha—one of the first women to serve as a Maryland prosecutor and trial judge, and my inspiration to become a lawyer—sat in the audience with my dad, Ed.

That night, I told the American people who I am and what I believe. I talked about my 28-year career as a lawyer, almost all of which has been in public service. I talked about my 12 years as a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, often called the second most important court in the country, and my five years of service in the White House for President George W. Bush. I talked about my long record of advancing and promoting women, including as a judge—a majority of my 48 law clerks have been women—and as a longtime coach of girls’ basketball teams.

As I explained that night, a good judge must be an umpire—a neutral and impartial arbiter who favors no political party, litigant or policy. As Justice Kennedy has stated, judges do not make decisions to reach a preferred result. Judges make decisions because the law and the Constitution compel the result. Over the past 12 years, I have ruled sometimes for the prosecution and sometimes for criminal defendants, sometimes for workers and sometimes for businesses, sometimes for environmentalists and sometimes for coal miners. In each case, I have followed the law. I do not decide cases based on personal or policy preferences...

He had better be nominated. If not, I don’t think he can go back to his life as if nothing happened. He won’t be able to teach at any law school without being hounded by protestors. He’ll never be promoted (if judges do that.) The scandal will be like a dark cloud over his head.

I heard Savage tantruming about Kavanaugh today. So, he might turn out to be a good SCOTUS Justice after all.

Dear Kavanaugh,

No apology needed, as far as I'm concerned.

In fact, I would say you handled this lynching better than I would have. I'd have gone over that table and punched some of those Socialists, in the nose, for spouting their filth at me.

How about one for 2nd amendment? That would be more useful and meaningful.

He’d made some ‘sorta yes’ comments earlier today after seeing the FBI report & then I saw another comment that he was still “struggling”, thus my comment.

I hear ya. Flake hasn't struggled with his choice a single moment. He will be a No at the end of the day.

I don’t have access to the data nor the methodologies.

Check with the NRA.

Apologizing for the very speech that saved his nomination is questionable at best.

Agreed.

I think these elites just don’t get it, they are surrounded by crazies leftists and don’t realize how things play or look in the real world.

Outside the media/celebrity deranged liberal bubble, MOST Americans were cheering his speech and testimony.

Flake sold his vote to the opposition for some cushy K-street job SOROS will be taking very good care of Flakey!

I'll bet Flake started banking that Soros money a long time ago. Probably not long after he arrived in Washington.

It's why he suddenly began acting more like a Dem, than a Republican. That performance led directly to his basement level approval ratings, which then sealed his career path in stone. He's going to be a player in Democrat politics after he leaves the Senate.

“Go read the comments! In my wildest dreams, I wouldn’t have guessed there are so many, many people who are clear minded and feel just like we do.”

Well, it’s the WSJ. Not too many crazies read that for fun.

No paywall for this article.
Thank you Brett Stephens and WSJ

Bret Stephens has been at the New York Slimes for a year and a half now. He's evolved from a squishy right of center never-Trumper to a squishy left of center never-Trumper. There's nothing to thank him for.

Correct. Look at Clarence Thomas. He NEVER , ever forgot what the left did to him and ever since, he sticks it to the left every damn time.
