State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Co. plans to permanently close its Tampa operations center, cutting 59 jobs in the process.
The insurer notified the state Department of Economic Opportunity on Sept. 27 of its plans. It will close the Tampa center and a portion of its Jacksonville operations center, according to the letter to the DEO. The Jacksonville closure will affect 100 jobs.
The Tampa jobs affected include auto claims representatives, claim processors, claim service assistants and more.
Wow. I never heard of that. Oddly, I’d had St John’s homeowners insurance less than a year when the spray nozzle kitchen sink fitting failed and soaked my kitchen and, through the walls, my bathroom. It dinged St John’s for over ten thousand dollars to remediate. State Farm got out just in time. LOL.
Part of the problem is the way insurance companies are set up in FL and all the other states as well.
In each state the insurance company’s liability is for that state alone, regardless of how big the parent company is.
Thousands of illegal alien drivers are uninsured. Legal citizens have to take up the burden of covering the many accidents these third-worlders cause, many resulting in fatalities because of drunk driving.
My neighbor is one who is losing her job in November. She has known about it for at least a year.
But State Farm refused to take the 16 year old off the new car when they knew she had her own car. They also refused to take off the fireplace and wouldn’t come out to see there wasn’t one. They refused to pay for a fallen tree damages.
The list goes on but this family will NEVER use State Farm again. It was a “family” house so that’s why it took so long for the family to agree to change over.
They claimed the tree damage was “an act of God”.
I’ll give you the explanation: Stupid FL state no-fault law and incredible degree of traffic accidents due to texting and tourists. With increasing congestion and baby boomer retirees it’s a no-brainer. State Farm is a smartly-managed company. Top notch. If they do something they do it for sound reasons.
State Farm insures more than Automobiles.
Perhaps they are withdrawing from the homeowners business because in the hurricane guranteed area, insuring properties is a losing proposition
We had a hard time getting out daughter off our insurance even after she moved out and was living on her own! In another town! They kept telling us it was state law that required it...............BS............
That basically includes everything: tornado, hail, wind storm, hurricane, flood, volcano, tsunami, sand storm, sinkholes, asteroids and solar flares...................
I had similar experience with Allstate in KY in the mid 70s. I took a couple of job transfers with the same company, had both renter’s insurance and auto insurance with them, that I had since graduating from college in ‘71, and had been continuously employed as an engineer with the same employer the entire time. Because of the two temporary relocations during one year for project purposes, Allstate classified me as a transient and cancelled my coverage. Did I say I was also married in ‘70 and my wife lived with me throughout? No more Allstate!
We never insured the boat dock because they told us they’d only pay a claim was if it was damaged due to war. Snort, no insurance company insures for war.
Now that we have paid off our mortgage, 14 years early [THANK YOU PRESIDENT TRUMP!!!] we will not be carrying much insurance that was required by the mortgage company.
If you read the terms of your policy, it don’t cover much of anything......................
Our insurance payment was twice the mortgage payment.
Liberty also touts themselves as the good guys for offering features like new car replacement coverage and 1st-time accident forgiveness, when in fact other carriers have been offering these for decades.
State Farm totally screwed us over here in Maryland, making people miles away in a different county “pay” for the Baltimore riots.
Did you turn 70? That's what happened to a friend of mine in Maryland.
Thankfully, the mortage was paid off years ago. Property tax and insurance = 4+ months of income today. Those two bills were nothing when we bought years ago.
It might have been. They also made no effort to keep me as a customer.
