FBI investigation into Kavanaugh is 'uncharted territory,' expert says

The investigation would be limited to the "current credible allegations," according to the statement from the Senate committee. That classification would fall under "any kind of allegation where there are witnesses that can be interviewed and any kind of information that can be gathered to determine whether the allegations are true or false," Gomez said.

Agents will conduct interviews, complete database checks and research people's criminal histories and any kind of civil litigation they've been involved with in the past, Gomez said, describing the background check as a "special operation." The interviews will be confidential and conducted by professionals who are experts with these types of allegations, he said.

"They are going to pursue every lead, every bit of information possible that comes up in the interviews so they are not going to stop until it's done because this will now be raised to the highest priority category of investigation," he said.

These type of background checks are "very high priority" for the FBI, Gomez said. Both the bureau and the White House recognize that "time is of the essence" especially with the midterm elections coming up, the former special agent-in-charge said.

"So, it's a question of what do they remember and what are they going to say in the FBI interviews."

Once they find out that Judge Kavanaugh missed a cerfew by ten minutes back in 1982, someone at the FBI will have to announce that they missed that particular incident - six times in a row.

Can the FBI get back to view what the Accuser had scrubbed from her FB account? That’s what they should be looking at..and as far back as they can look.

“so they are not going to stop until it’s done”

That’s the plan. And it won’t be a week.

All this over two adolescents tussling in a bed at a party 36 years ago. Great sense of priorities.Definitely should take precedence over modern day terrorist threats /s

Interesting last sentence from the article:

“Kavanaugh’s confirmation will be finalized once the full Senate vote occurs.”

Doesn't matter.

Mitch can call the floor vote anyway. This FBI thing was not officially amended to the committee’s vote.

The FBI’s job is to investigate terrorism, not high school kids from 36 years ago..what do they expect the FBI to do, go knock on every single door in Montgomery County, Maryland with a pool and ask to check the home for fingerprints

Well, you know his calendar did show he WAS grounded so that must mean he did SOMETHING. The FBI must get to the bottom of that, his parents must have caught him forming gang races or being 10 minutes after curfew

It will go quick. There are field offices everywhere. They just showed up at Papadapoulis house on Sunday afternoon. None of these people have to talk though...The second accusers had no one backing her up except one person who heard about it, but at least eight denying it including one of her best friends at the time...This will put everyone denying the accusations on record.

If her parents and siblings are not interviewed, then we know this investigation is a total sham.

The FBI will essentially be investigating high schoolers.

Wouldn't they investigate lying before the judiciary committee? Wouldn't that be a federal crime?

The FBI will essentially be investigating high schoolers.

Correction: The FBI will essentially be investigating high schoolers who are now in their 50s.

Can you imagine being interviewed by the FBI about something that happened in high school ... and then show up at your 35th high school reunion a couple of months later? The whole thing is a joke. LOL.

The FBI will essentially be investigating high schoolers.

They will, but there is nothing to find. The people who ought to worry are the Dems, their lackeys, and Dr. Ford. They better hope that they didn't lie (and of course, they did).

".... Mitch can call the floor vote anyway...."

McConnell will not call a floor vote until, and unless, he knows he has the votes to confirm.

Right now Flake"s vote appears "flakey" and McConnell's got Collins and Murkowski to worry about too.

He won't arbitrarily call for a vote if he risks losing it. The FBI "investigation" will be short and sweet, so he can afford to wait, to ensure he has these three on board.

Only when McConnell's whip has the votes to confirm, will he call for the full senate vote.

It will be over by Friday. I think this is a quid pro quo to bring everything back to the middle. We all know it is going to be a party line vote. Maybe we get Manchin.

As we saw at the end, everyone was all kissy and huggy. This really is the only way to do it,

Don’t be surprised if his parents know why he was grounded.
