Kamala Harris And Brett Kavanaugh Had A Very Weird Exchange At His Confirmation Hearing

More than 12 hours into Judge Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court confirmation hearing on Wednesday, Sen. Kamala Harris raised a question about Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation that appeared to take everyone by surprise.

"Have you ever discussed Special Counsel Mueller or his investigation with anyone?" Harris asked, prompting Kavanaugh to note that the topic is "in the news everyday" and that he had discussed it "with other judges."

Then, however, Harris shifted to a far more direct question: "Have you discussed Mueller or his investigation with anyone at Kasowitz Benson and Torres, the law firm found by Marc Kasowitz, President Trump's personal lawyer?"

And though that question amounted to a near-accusation that the senator never quite made, Kavanaugh also was unable to give a direct answer — leaving the issue unresolved going into Thursday, what will be the third day of Kavanaugh's confirmation hearing.

Nothing about such a communication between Kavanaugh and a lawyer from the Kasowitz firm has been reported previously, and the White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the exchange.

Obamacare team member didn’t recuse herself when the issue came up at the SC.

The problem is Harris thinks she is smarter than the nominee and could bait him to answer a question which could be wrong anyway he answered it...

All she had to do was give him a name from the law firm...

But that wasn’t her end game...

"...he would have had to recuse himself if that case ever"

Under what specific law exactly?

SC justices are autonomous creatures; they go by an honor code. Even the Code of Conduct for United States Judges does not apply to the SC.

Does Ginsburg recused herself every time some ACLU stooge presents an argument/case?

"He knows damn well if he had that conversation."

He's probably had conversations with many lawyers/judges concerning the Mueller investigation, he admitted to that. What he doesn't know if he's had a conversation with a lawyer from a specific law firm concerning the Mueller investigation. How is he supposed to know what law firm everyone he ever talks to works for? This is Washington D.C., they're all lawyers!!

“I don’t even see why this would matter. Conversations are not illegal.”

Legal or illegal is not the issue. Did he or did he not engage in that conversation? He is prevaricating and it is not attractive.

I was never that impressed with this selection as it is. Ho hum if you ask me.

Expect a subpoena soon. We can’t confirm a judge for the Supreme Court if he is subpoenaed by Mueller now, can we...

“I think Kamala Harris came off really badly as a sleazebag demonicRAT trying to trap someone in a manufactured ‘process crime’. It should be obvious to anybody with a three-digit IQ that the demonicRATs’ anti-Trump strategy has ‘process crime’ as a major component.”

Of course she came off just as you describe, but the point is, Kavanaugh is the one that is being interviewed, not that wingnut Harris. And Kavanaugh did not look good during that exchange.

"Does Ginsburg recused herself every time some ACLU stooge presents an argument/case? "

The problem is that conservatives believe in honor and the honorable thing to do. They don't play by those rules. Look no further than Jeff Sessions. Do you honestly think that Eric Holder would have recused himself from running this investigation into Obama if he had met with the Soviet Foreign minister and forgot to tell the Senate confirmation committee?

The best answer here is that Mueller’s investigation has covered a lot of ground, and has resulted in a number of criminal prosecutions that have nothing to do with Trump. So he’s probably had conversations with a lot of people in the legal profession about the cases.

——I really think Kavanaugh did not come off well and needs to answer the flipping question unless it is somehow privileged information.——

I think he handled himself well considering the nature of the question...

Pick any company you do business with and tell me name of someone who works there ?

“Yep. As soon as he is confirmed, a special counsel will be assigned to investigate every move Kavanaugh has made.”

Won’t happen. As soon as this confirmation is over and Kavanaugh is seated, Trump will go on the offensive. I’m confident that Trump’s people took note of Harris’ question and behind the scenes will be investigating it.

Me either, might be a Kennedy clone, might not. Will depend if he follows stare decisis or the Constitution/original context(Transcends time)/explicit enumerated law.

He's prevaricating for several reasons:

1. Not only is the question not specific as to a certain person, but it's not specific as to a certain time, either.

2. The timing of the item above is critical because Marc Kasowitz only served as Trump's attorney in the matter for about two months in 2017. If Kavanaugh had a conversation with someone in this firm two months ago, then what relevance does it have to anything?

Boy she sees herself as a champ and hero to the leftist. She hopes it moves her in the #1 position for 2020 election. It’s all theatre.
