Florida gubernatorial candidate Ron DeSantis did an interview with Fox News on Wednesday where he used a um, questionable choice of words when talking about his Democratic opponent, Andrew Gillum.
As DeSantis spoke to Sandra Smith about how he secured the Republican Party nomination last night, he was asked how he plans to beat Gillum now that theyre about to go head-to-head. Since the Tallahassee mayor is campaigning on progressive policies with support from Bernie Sanders, DeSantis acknowledged Gillam as an articulate spokesman for those far left views who moved forward with more charisma than other candidates in the democratic primaries.

common expression used to mean don’t mess this up. Actually funny if you ask me.....racists are obsessed with race. And that describes the LEFT. They see everything through color of skin. Even an innocent statement.
geez... a ‘macaca moment’ already...???
STOP TALKING TO THE MEDIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He probably meant nothing by it, but seriously, what an idiot!
He already has a Macaca moment.
Not good. Personally, I don’t care, but you know the media is going to be all over this.
DUMB.
So now the use of the word “monkey” under any circumstance is now banned, eh? What word is next?
That’s the take they should use on this.
Ask the liberals what they mean... Do THEY think ‘monkey’ means black people? why?
If you say the phrase ‘monkey-around’, ist that VERBOTTEN too these days?
BS. Race has got nothing to do with it. My wife just this means that democrats consider blacks monkeys or they would bring something as stupid as this up. Shes right.
don’t monkey around with me
Do not try to trick me or tell me a lie; do not try to make a fool out of me; don’t try to manipulate my emotions. Listen, pal, don’t monkey around with me! Either pay your debts on time or we’ll have to repossess your home. Don’t monkey around with medid I win the award or not

He should have just dropped the F bomb.
That’s what a Democrat would do.
Agreed, a common expression I’ve heard many times, meaning to mess something up.
Still, even if DeSantis meant nothing racial by it, it was a mistake to have used it. He handed Gillum an issue, and it is bound to fire up his base.
Just dumb, incredible lack of situational awareness.
Trump can get away without a filter but DeSantis probably needs one.
Don’t get your suburban NJ housewife knockers in a twist, it’s just a figure of speech.
The irony of it all is that both George Allen and Jim Webb are to the right of most Republicans these days.
Virginia in 2006 was a conservative state. 2008 to now, Obama and the demographics changed VA to a Northern liberal state now because of NOVA.
Had Allen not used that word in ‘06, Allen would have won reelection, he would have won the 2008 GOP nomination and could have beaten Obama instead of McCain.
LOVE IT!
Trigger them all day long, Ron.
So utterly sick of the Thought Police, the Ism Police, the Ist Police, the LGBTQWTFBBQ Police...
Enough!
I voted for Adam Putnam.
i came here to say this.....
“don’t f this up” will connect with more people than monkey.
Well forget McCain, the MSM has their new obsession for the next few days.
So maybe he should have said hippopotamus up or elephant up then. BTW, there is on YouTube a “Laugh In” joke wall segment about lion jokes.
