My dear old Mother is up at 3:30AM making pies and carping about it a 5 AM chipping sugar out of the oven.

Yeesh she is amazing! I I wake the boy up and say have a look at this debacle! She is cussing like a Sailor.

I’m so relieved that fire is finally contained, but at what cost. The lives, the homes and the beautiful forests. Have they said how that one started. If it was by man, I hope he’s strung up by his...er...thumbs!

I’ll bet you miss being home. Will you get to spend the holidays with her this year?

Awesome! Since retirement, i think I’m gonna have to go. Not standing and moving for 6 hours a day at work has *ahem* made a difference in my girlish figgur. :)

Hazy skies are not a favorite around here. The road to Yosemite has now opened up for travelers. They lost their shirt again this summer. They do big business during July and August. A real shame!

Just the thought of eating a peach makes my mouth water. I don’t guess I’ve ever had a summer in my life that I’ve had enough fresh peaches to get tired of ‘em. I’ve eaten till I was busting many a day, but never lost the craving. Ours were all eaten right off the tree this year, didnt have but 6-8 dozen. Had 2 little granddaughters here for 5 weeks. They’d sleep late and when they woke up we’d go out and grab 2-3 peaches for breakfast. I need to find a farmers market and get a bushel or 2 to can now. Not much time left, we’re headed to Maine to see the kids up there in September.

I know you’re both looking forward to getting to walk more. AND for the weather to be a bit cooler than it has been. This has been a terrible summer for everyone, I think!

I used to think Apple Strudel was from Germany, but I was told no. The recipe actually originated from areas near Vienna and Hungary. The Viennese like to dust everything in sight with confectioner sugar. I’m more familiar with that version. Wickedly sweet!
