The FBI has fired Agent Peter Strzok, who helped lead the bureaus investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election until officials discovered he had been sending anti-Trump texts.
Aitan Goelman, Strzoks lawyer, said FBI Deputy Director David L. Bowdich ordered the firing on Friday even though the director of the FBI office that normally handles employee discipline had decided Strzok should face only a demotion and 60-day suspension. Goelman said the move undercuts the FBIs repeated assurances that Strzok would be afforded the normal disciplinary process.
This isnt the normal process in any way more than name, Goelman said.
The FBI declined to comment.
The termination marks a remarkable downfall for Strzok, a 22-year veteran of the bureau who investigated Russian spies, defense officials accused of selling secrets to China and myriad other important cases. In the twilight of his career, Strzok was integral to two of the bureaus most high-profile investigations: the Russia case, and the investigation into Hillary Clintons use of a private email server while secretary of state.
But when a Justice Department inspector general investigation uncovered politically charged messages that Strzok had exchanged with another FBI official, he was relegated to a position in human resources. Conservatives soon made Strzok the face of their attacks against the special counsel investigation into the presidents campaign, and the FBI took steps to remove him from its ranks.
Strzoks position in the bureau had been precarious since last summer, when Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz told Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III that the lead agent on his team had been exchanging anti-Trump messages with an FBI lawyer. The next day, Mueller expelled Strzok from the group.

By the time he exhausts his appeals under the Civil Service system he’ll either get his job back, or retirement under full pension.
That needed to get fixed YESTERDAY!
I bet he ain't smirking any more.................
Small fish, we need the bigger ones.
Rush Limbaugh just pushed “the stack” right off the table.
I guess they just kept him on the books till they got his testimony before Congress.
Looks like he’s playing hide the Gerbal.
Does he retain his pension?
Finally, although I agree that it’s not enough.
So when is his book coming out?
Omarosa should be done with her book tour by October.
No loyalty from this group. I’m still waiting on exposes’ about Obama. The Obama Team probably makes threats against whistleblowers, the way the Clintons have always done.
You can bet Michelle and Valerie would be ruthless.
The face of evil.
Probably....that’s why they waited till this date maybe?
“Small fish, we need the bigger ones.”
Right now I’d settle for any “fish” being tried. Time’s a wasting, wee need to see some butts in the dock.
LOOK! A SQUIRREL!!
Wait I have that answer. The correct answer Peter is your fired.
P
(Usually they have fired the miscreants AFTER they are done with them...)
Next step will be to appoint an Independent counsel with prosecutorial powers to investigate wrong doing (in otherwords, the staff of the IG, but with subpoena powers over all, both employees, ex-employees non-employees, and all other powers of a prosecutor. The two people that come to mind are Michael Horowitz (already has the staff and investigation) or Michael Mukasey, former AG. Sessions has not recused himself from this function so he has the power to appoint. Trump feels the need to have some distance between himself and releasing the redacted emails. After watching most of the senators and congressmen (Republican) suggesting the need for this, it might be on the front burner. At any rate, it looks like the powers to be are getting close to actually doing something.
The turd has been quietly scooped out of the punch bowl like nothing happened.
Gonna be some Strzok Stroke Smirk See-ya going on with Rush today.
