Newt Gingrich on Monday offered rare, scalding criticism of President Trump, demanding that the president explain the comments he made during his controversial press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the conclusion of their talks in Helsinki.
"President Trump must clarify his statements in Helsinki on our intelligence system and Putin," the former House speaker wrote on Twitter. "It is the most serious mistake of his presidency and must be corrected—-immediately."
Trump received widespread scorn on Monday after he said at the media availability that he has yet to see any compelling reason why the Kremlin would have interfered in the 2016 election.
His comments follow special counsel Robert Mueller's indictment in federal court on Friday, which alleged 12 Russian military officials hacked Democratic email servers during the campaign.
Gingrich has been a vocal supporter of Trump, but he has on occasion provided constructive critiques of his performance.
Gingrich chastised Trump in April, claiming his administration had botched the release of Deputy Attorney Rod Rosenstein's memo outlining problems with fired FBI Director James Comey.

1. Intelligence community totally lies when it comes to Iraq war, Vietnam, Cold War but now the republicans reactionaries RRs say it’s telling the truth absolutely.
2. RRs for decades say Russia not a threat. Mock Romney for saying they are a threat in 2012.
3. RRs reset Russia relations in 2009 because they’re not a threat like bush said they were but Hillary sos was not colluding. Obama is not colluding in 2012 when he tells Medvadev about future flexibility.

I watched the press conference. It definitely was not a “most serious mistake of his presidency.”
After watching the Congressional hearings, and the “intelligence agents” plotting to overthrow his presidency, why on earth would Trump jump to embrace every word they say; it was Obama’s people, such as Brennan, who originally said the Russians meddled.
Trump can rightfully say that it was Obama administration’s dereliction of duty that permitted any meddling.
It would have been an act of weakness to VERBALLY reprove Putin in front of the world. Obama already has that strategy covered.
Actually it has been a brilliant tactical manuever bringing out the #Nevertrunpers into full daylight. And after Mueller/Rosenstein’s political show indictments on the eve of this summit, you can expect both to face the wrath of our Sun Tzu philisopher president.
Let me ask you...Do you think President Trump knows what he is doing???
