Elon Musk queries expertise of Thai cave rescue officials

Entrepreneur turns on mission leader who rejected his offer of a submarine

Elon Musk has questioned the expertise of Thai rescue officials who turned down his offer of a submarine, despite their having organised the successful rescue of all 12 boys and their football coach from a flooded cave.

The entrepreneur had offered his help and posted footage of tests being carried out on the apparatus he proposed in recent days.

But while Narongsak Osatanakorn, the head of the joint command centre co-ordinating the operation, acknowledged Musk’s offer he said that the mini submarine would not have been practical for the cave rescue.

“Even though their equipment is technologically sophisticated, it doesn’t fit with our mission to go in the cave,” Osatanakorn told reporters.

In response, Musk said Osatanakorn was “not the subject matter expert”, adding that he believed he had been “inaccurately described as rescue chief”, and should be more accurately referred to as the “former Thai provincial governor”.

Maybe he can get a government subsidy to build an electric cave rescue sub.

ROTFLMAO! Keyboard expert didn’t even read the article!
***********************************
Look at the picture of Musk’s “sub” (and its two accompanying “guide” divers) in the article and compare the size of the sub with the size of the “guide” divers in that picture. Then, remembering that the actual rescue divers had to remove their air tanks in the tight spots, visualize the sub trying to traverse those tight spots. And remember the cave was not conveniently all straight.

The rescue divers on site made the right call. Musk was, at very best, merely backup “Plan B”.

“The rescue divers on site made the right call.”

And he congratulated them for their success.

How did the great Elon Musk propose they get his sub over the several sections above the waterline?

I am afraid it is too late to teach you how to be civil.

Indeed he did, but still no proof that the giant metal pill could navigate all those tight-ass corners and ups and downs.

Yes he did. The linked item and its copy of Musk’s tweets didn’t really show anything other than very mild disappointment on Musk’s part.

“Moreover, based on extensive cave video review and discussion with several divers who know journey, SpaceX engineering is absolutely certain that mini-sub can do entire journey & demonstrate at any time,” Musk added.

That’s what I was thinking. In my youth I and my brothers explored a few local caves and there’s no way a elongated, stiff tube could have navigated the twists and turns we had to maneuver.

Now I’m too fat and stiff to even image doing what I did so effortlessly in my youth.

Apparently some local politico got in over his head and Musk called him on it.

They didn't have the greatest technology or the greatest plan. What they had is the prayers of the whole world. They had that and the sheer force of will of those who risked their lives to make the rescue happen.

Perhaps the conclusion is that there is a God and he listens. Or perhaps for those who can't accept God, what happened is that when people work together to accomplish something they care so much about, the impossible becomes possible. Which just might be another way to think of God.
