(Washington, DC) Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton issued the following statement in response to President Trumps nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court:
President Trump hit a home run with his nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. President Trump stood up for the U.S. Constitution and the rule of law with this nomination. Judge Kavanaugh has a demonstrated record of applying the rule of law rather than legislating from the bench. His record shows Judge Kavanaugh will apply the U.S. Constitution as written and intended by our Founding Fathers.
This nomination is a great victory for constitutional government and a blow to politicized decision-making on the Supreme Court. We have too many politicians as it is in DC, we certainly dont need any more on the Supreme Court. Most Americans agree with Judge Kavanaugh that the Supreme Court should apply the law as it is written and leave the legislating to the peoples elected representatives in Congress.
And the U.S. Senate should move quickly to work with President Trump to consider and approve Judge Kavanaugh. There is not much radical liberals can do to stop this excellent Supreme Court pick. We expect to see leftist smears, religious bigotry, more threats of violence, etc. but the votes are there for Judge Kavanaugh to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
Excellent!
Tagline.
"We at Priests for Life have personal experience of Judge Kavanaugh's approach to religious freedom, because he sided with us when we had to defend our religious freedom in the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals. Notably, Alveda King, niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and full-time associate with Priests for Life, was one of the petitioners in the Priests for Life case.
"In Priests for Life v. HHS (2015), Judge Kavanaugh voted to block the Obama administration from forcing us to violate our consciences by being complicit in providing abortifacient and contraceptive coverage to our employees. He found it 'crystal clear' that the government mandate was a substantial burden on our exercise of the freedom of religion.
I love that he says "apply" instead of "interpret". Too many on our side, even Trump, use the opposition's verbiage. Our constitution and laws aren't written in Latin. They don't need to be "interpreted". They need to be applied. Just a pet peeve of mine, but little things matter.
I prefer to think Trump hit a double. Then again, I think Justice Kennedy was a sacrifice bunt.
Youre for it, unless it doesnt work out, then your against it. Oh sorry, I just paraphrased Al Gore.
Bold Freeper you are.
It's been argued... It's been said...
Pretty weak stuff unless it can be backed up by the actual text of Kavanaugh's writings, and not just cherry picked pieces either...
Thanks for posting this. It makes me feel even more optimistic.
HOORAY Judicial Watch and HOORAY Tom Fitton.
CONGRATULATIONS Brett Kavanaugh!!!
Justice Kennedy stood with us on OCARE, while Roberts BETRAYED us, I dont see this court ending up a 5-4 vote consistently with Roberts on the bench!!! I still have a HUGE doubt about Kavanaugh BUT we will see, my gut tells me this guy is a mistake I PRAY I am wrong!!!
WTH??
AFA has opposed the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S Supreme Court for some very valid reasons. We are deeply concerned about how he might ultimately rule on issues related to abortion and religious liberty. For these reasons, we consider this nomination to represent a four-star appointm when it could have been five-star.
However, after hearing the concerns of some of our supporters, and after hearing the passionate defense of Judge Kavanaugh by many we consider to be friends in the pro-life movement, we are willing to let this process play out. We eagerly await the confirmation hearings when we hope to get clarification from Judge Kavanaugh on aspects related to our concerns.
At this time, we have no plans to fight President Trump on this nomination. He has appointed a lot of good federal judges already and we look forward to many more. We hope that our concerns prove to be unfounded.
He’s just ridin the Pine like usual
Some kids never grow up
Supreme Court Justice Scalia once commented that he has ruled in favor of things that went against his personal beliefs but he ruled in favor of The Constitution.
Scalia was a man of principle and honor. Scalia was devoted to the Constitution and its protector. He is missed greatly.
Finally - a statement by an org that has it’s “stuff” packed in one sock.....hope the rumor-munching concern trolls take notice...
