WASHINGTON President Donald Trump on Monday nominated Brett Kavanaugh, a federal appeals court judge in Washington, to succeed Anthony Kennedy on the Supreme Court. Trump made the announcement at the White House. NBC News broke the story shortly before the president's made his choice public. Kavanaugh serves on the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, which often rules on major challenges to federal laws and policies. If confirmed, he would make the Supreme Court solidly conservative, joining Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, and Neil Gorsuch providing a five-vote majority.

Potential Supreme Court Nominee Brett Kavanaugh Has A Troubling Record On Religious Liberty
What’s that song President Trump has been playing at rallies for so long now? You can’t always get what you want? The middle and moderate right got a lot. The extremes of both sides, notsomuch.
So you admit he’s a moderate. And conservatives are extreme according to you? Do you have a DA account?
So does anyone know Kavanaugh’s ancestry? Irish? Scots Irish? Amish?
Politics is the art of what's possible. The Bush's of the world gave far too much. There are one or two issues that I have been incredibly disappointed in Trump and his people on, but largely, he's gotten as much as could be possibly taken, realistically.
Kavanaugh's not perfect. None of them are. Time will tell is he's a Souter but as best as I can tell he's a solid and realistic pick for July 2018.
Not sure what a DA account is, but I consider myself a moderate republican and Kavanaugh to be palatable and right of center in the vein of Kennedy.
not...pres. trump lost a lot of enthusiasm with this pick...better to lose and trounce the dems in nov...
Between your feelings and President Trump’s judgement, I’m going with the President. Welcome to Free Republic.
McCain just endorsed him. That makes me nervous.
Another Booshie, meh, so much for draining the swamp! ...
During the primary, I voted for Cruz. If you had told me then I’d be writing this now, I’d have called you a liar. But here goes:
Folks need to calm down and trust Trump. This may be the best he felt he could get confirmed. That IS a valid reason. Or it may be his sense of the guy was that he’s strongly principled and won’t ‘go wobbly’!
In any case, I’m content to trust Trump. Much rather trust him than trust the hordes of competing commentators who hyperventilate over everything.
Eggsactly, another Booshie ...
Flake can tell us how swell he is next just for the four leaf clover.
kavanagh believes in stare decisis...roe vs. wade will stand...millions of babies will continue to be aborted...trump is a big loser tonight...
“Theres not a single top nominee that hasnt been trashed here lately.”
Just a bunch of idiots that think their favorite was the “right” one, and that if you didnt pick their favorite , then you were “stupid”.
They said the same with the last guy.
They will have their prissy crybaby string of posts, just like the last time, and then they will go away.
“looks like trump made a deal with kennedy...sold roe vs wade down the toilet...red states in the bible belt remember pres. trump and millions of babies aborted...”
LOL!
So you must be the designated troll that will rapid-fire this goofiness because X guy you liked didn’t get picked?
“.red states in the bible belt remember pres. trump and millions of babies aborted...”
Jesus, some of you really like to make a spectacle of yourself.
Not me, not forcing anyone but I see this as a choice between good and evil and sitting on your hands and not trusting that God has his hands on this troubles my soul.
Each of us must choose, and that is our right and I will not force anyone to do anything, not even try. God puts leaders in place for his reasons, and if that leader has chosen someone other than who I wanted then I trust that it will all work out.
You couldn’t take a just minute to contemplate what I said/meant.
That is the kind of tunnel vision response that illustrates why the conservative movement has such difficulty winning battles.
We have made huge headway against abortion, and we are winning and we are going to win.
Wars are won by fighting and winning battles on multiple fronts. Judges and SCOTUS are one front. All the while we are also fighting and winning a battle of attrition. We have worked a dramatic shift in the attitude and beliefs of the American public. That is reflected in the significant decline in the number of abortion clinics in operation. That’s lives saved at the same time we go to the mat daily fighting for Constitutional judges one hard fought battle at a time.
If you can’t conceive of a war on multiple fronts, you can’t win it. Of course we have to turn the supreme court in a constitutional direction. But we have to do these other things at the same time to make successes in the courts last for generations. Winning the court alone will not insure that changes will be long term.
Calling me a RINO without showing me the courtesy of asking me to expand upon my statements is a rudeness unbecoming of a committed conservative.
Well said.
"Kavanaugh, too, for that matter."
They'll also have to avoid buying new gas stoves . . . and pillows for that matter.
