Amul Thapar: Trump Country's Perfect SCOTUS Choice President Trump already a conservative hero for appointing Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court and for his swift remaking of the federal appellate courts can again make history by choosing Judge Amul Thapar of Kentucky to replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy. Thapar, the son of Indian immigrants who came to America legally, is the product of public schools in Toledo, Ohio. He was the first ever judge of South Asian descent appointed to the federal bench and would be the first person of any Asian heritage appointed to the Supreme Court. Thapar is a history-making choice for a president who loves to make history. Trump often zigs when other presidents would have zagged, as the Washington Post noted this weekend, and he can again defy the swamp by appointing someone like Thapar who is squarely from outside of it. For conservatives, Thapar is a dream choice. Hes an originalist, a term associated with Justices Clarence Thomas, Gorsuch and the late Antonin Scalia. Imagine a Supreme Court where the two leading conservative originalists are an African-American and an Indian-American. Trump can absolutely shatter the stereotypes liberals throw at Republicans by having Thapar join Thomas to defend and indeed crusade for the U.S. Constitution.

I have got to say, by his rulings he does sound other than a “bleeding heart” and as if he goes by a strict reading of the Constitution. As one of 9 no worries that he himself can go too far.
So I am really liking the idea of this pick. If the Dems go balls to the wall for him, Trump will probably make inroads in the Asian-American vote as well.
Looks like Boston College undergrad and UC Berkeley Law.
Fine by me.
1 he cannot “stop” abortion on demand.
2 you are not going to get any pledge.
Laws are being judged through political activists on the Left and should be judged on the argument for the sides in the case.
Interesting as I’d think they’d see her as too pro-life.
They I am sure can be bought off with something else. I wonder how badly Mitch wants this guy from Kentucky?
I would hope that the President is looking for anything BUT Ivey League credentials. We have had enough ... more than enough of Ivy League credentials.
The usual band of Republicans who wet themselves over the chance to demonstrate that they are as multicultural and diversity loving as any liberal Democrat will be on this guy’s bandwagon in an instant.
Move over Colin Powell, Condoleeza Rice, Nikki Haley, there’s a new hero in town.
Scalia and Thomas are both from the Ivy League.
Meanwhile ...
The Zombie is from Harvard.
The Dyke is from Harvard and Princeton.
The Wise Latina is from Princeton and Yale.
The Fag is from Harvard.
The Traitor is from Harvard.
And so it goes.
Enough of the damn "Ivies".
He taught at the University of Cincinnati law school, which has a statue of William Howard Taft outside the law school building.
I know dude....Berkeley?? That’s a red flag right there.
There is a reason these schools are considered the best. How long that remains the case under fascist attack remains to be seen.
Fate, re-incarnation ... Cheapen life.
Yes. The graduates thereof, and the administrators thereof, keep telling you they're the best. And you're willing to believe them.
I'm not.
I consider them wretched leftist indoctrination camps, which impart negative value to society.
His background doens’t make him look all that conservative; what am I missing? Someone have any better info?
And where does he stand on the Second Amendment? That issue is #1 for me.
Assuming a second term for President Trump, I’d be surprised the he wouldn’t have another two appointees. Ruth is not going to live forever (tho it seems she already has). Breyer’s no kid; Sotomayor is not a healthy woman .. who knows what’s ahead ? But I am pretty sure POTUS will get at least one and possibly two more SCOTUS picks. har har dee har har.
Wow, Tharpar does seem an outstanding candidate!
Don’t know if judge Thapar is Trump’s pick, but he is greatly favored by senate majority leader McConnell, both from Kentucky. Which means Thapar’s nomination will get high priority in bringing to vote in senate.
LOL liberals have no problem attacking any conservative women, including the white house spokesman, ambassador to UN, and other women in Trump circle. Liberals have already begun attacking Barrett because she is a devout Catholic.
But he is not Jewish like 2 ladies on SCOTUS.
