The staff of the Capital Gazette took a jab at President Trump, days after a gunman opened fired in their newsroom and killed five people.
The staff of the Annapolis, Md., newspaper released a letter on Sunday to thank those who have offered support in the aftermath of the shooting.
“We won’t forget being called an enemy of the people,” the staff wrote. “No, we won’t forget that. Because exposing evil, shining light on wrongs and fighting injustice is what we do.”
Their comment appears to be a thinly-veiled hit at Trump’s use of the phrase to attack members of the media.
Trump has used the term consistently throughout his contentious relationship with the press.
Most recently, Trump rallied against NBC and CNN last month for its coverage of his summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
“Our Country’s biggest enemy is the Fake News so easily promulgated by fools!” Trump tweeted in June.
The president backed off his criticism of the media one day after the shooting and offered rare praise for reporters.
“Journalists, like all Americans, should be free from the fear of being violently attacked while doing their job,” Trump said Friday at an event to celebrate six months of the GOP tax bill.
CNN’s Jim Acosta shouted at Trump from the back of the room during the event.
“Mr. President, will you stop calling the press the enemy of the people?” Acosta yelled.
CNN later aired a montage on Friday of Trump talking down about the media.

When the story broke I posted here, half in jest, how long will it take them to blame it on Trump. Looks like only a few days.
Well, the guy that shot them thought they were his enemy.
Cause and effect. Action and equal & opposite reaction. Natural law. Truth.
All lost upon the damaged intellects of progressives, dangerous people with hateful hearts.
In fact, I'd be surprised if Trump has even heard of the rag.
Their choice of response is interesting in a few ways.
Exactly. Trump only enters into this particular case because he's living in their heads. I guess they are no longer interested in non-Democrat subscribers/readers. I am surprised that they feel fiscally able to alienate a sizable percentage of the Annapolis population. I guess the Baltimore Sun is carrying them now, so it really doesn't matter.
So is the Democrat Party (same thing, I know), and by extension the enemy of all mankind.
I tend to think that someone who produces Propaganda to promote their Political Bias as not only my Enemy, but the Enemy of Truth.
Besides, Obama was the one who told his Supporters to bring a Gun to a Knife Fight, not Trump.
They did not deny being an enemy with that statement.
They pretty much are the enemy of the state. All their high tone BS dramatics doesn’t change that.
