...sits on the 5th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals,...Willett is said to be an intellectual disciple of Scalia...In his state role, he defended displays of the Ten Commandments on public grounds; property rights in the face of government's use of eminent domain and civil forfeiture; and upholding state limits on the rights of gay and lesbian couples.

Follow the link and read it. Don Willet is your man for the Supreme Court. He also won an endorsement from Larry Pratt, executive director of Gun Owners of America. He's the candidate most in favor of our Second Amendment.

His conservative opinions on controversial issues are known, because he has posted them to social media including Twitter. But sometimes, you need to be capable of parsing his humor (sometimes ironic) and looking up other statements that clarify his position on each issue.

Full headline: "Tart Texas talker gets serious consideration as potential successor to Supreme Court's Justice Kennedy"

Bad headline, by the way. So New York journalists don't like him? ;-)

There will be trolls who would rather have a social liberal or another O’Connor (liberal—same thing). Look up the information yourself instead of believing the trolls. *No* more politically correct Supremes! We’ve had enough!

There’s no reason to compromise, and there’s more than enough time for confirmation! The filibuster was tossed out and doesn’t exist any more!

Could be a great choice!
The confirmation hearings would be a hoot, too!
More popcorn, please.

If Willet was appointed and approved, I bet Roberts would move to the left, becoming the new Anthony Kennedy v 2.0. Think of the adulation and notoriety Roberts would engender from the media, the legal community and the left. It’s almost too much to humanly resist.

I personally never had a problem with same-sex couples/partnerships. I just wished they would find another word for it than "marriage" or "married". Those words should be, IMHO, reserved for regular heterosexual couples.

Any judge who believes as Scalia did is alright in my book. They deserve consideration at the very least if they otherwise qualify for SCOTUS.

Hopefully he understands the difference between the legislative branch and judicial branch of government. He should also be aware that we have a Constitution. As a bonus, he should understand that the Supreme Court has no authority to create taxes. These principles are a little too complicated for some judges.

That’s why we need at least one more seat to open up (I’m lookin’ at you, Ginsburg). Just like in the Senate, it seems we always need some extra true conservatives in reserve to counter the Roberts and the McCains of the world.

If he’s on-record as to his positions-——liberals will annihilate him.

As far as the Leftist in the senate are concerned there is no such thing as conservative humor.

Any jokes that Willet ever said that were recorded would be transcribed and used to make him look like a right wing nut case in senate hearings.

“There’s no reason to compromise, and there’s more than enough time for confirmation! The filibuster was tossed out and doesn’t exist any more!”

You still need 50 votes (plus Pence) to confirm, and Trump only has somewhere around 45 for a guy like Willett.

Take the Catholic girl from Indiana. Win +6 this fall, then, when RBG dies, confirm this guy.

Don Willet may actually be a great candidate, better than Kavanaugh, Hardiman, and Kethledge, who seem to be very Establishment-friendly, i.e. similar to Chief Justice Roberts. Don Willet is said to have some “libertarian leanings”, but what does it mean? It may mean that he strongly supports property rights and gun rights, which would be good, or it may mean that he is weak on immigration, which would be bad. The article says that he isn’t a proponent of the strict separation of church (religion) and state, and homosexual-friendly, so his libertarian leanings are probably those of the good kind.

Liberals are out for blood......this is no time for humor.

I doubt if Trump wants to fool around with this kind of nominee.....he wants it quick and bloodless.

he wants it quick and bloodless.

Whoever Trump nominates the Democrats will have blood.

Their base demands blood and they will have blood.

The Democrats have surrendered to the far Left of their party and there is no going back. The communist Left has become the anarchist Left.

Eventually there will be blood flowing in the streets of one or more of the great cities of the US.

“.....he wants it quick and bloodless.”

With this kind of nominee, it would be quick and bloodless in the same way the discussion of nuclear buttons was with the Norks: “I’ve got a bigger button and it works!” IOW, he’d slap them around, “Art of the Deal”-style, and make them happy he didn’t dig up Attila the Hun as a nominee. Read the book...the rules have changed...stay ahead of the Dems and their fellow travelers, the “media”, who pontificate as if 2016 never happened.
