His conservative opinions on controversial issues are known, because he has posted them to social media including Twitter. But sometimes, you need to be capable of parsing his humor (sometimes ironic) and looking up other statements that clarify his position on each issue.

If Willet was appointed and approved, I bet Roberts would move to the left, becoming the new Anthony Kennedy v 2.0. Think of the adulation and notoriety Roberts would engender from the media, the legal community and the left. It’s almost too much to humanly resist.
Hopefully he understands the difference between the legislative branch and judicial branch of government. He should also be aware that we have a Constitution. As a bonus, he should understand that the Supreme Court has no authority to create taxes. These principles are a little too complicated for some judges.
If he’s on-record as to his positions-——liberals will annihilate him.
Don Willet may actually be a great candidate, better than Kavanaugh, Hardiman, and Kethledge, who seem to be very Establishment-friendly, i.e. similar to Chief Justice Roberts. Don Willet is said to have some “libertarian leanings”, but what does it mean? It may mean that he strongly supports property rights and gun rights, which would be good, or it may mean that he is weak on immigration, which would be bad. The article says that he isn’t a proponent of the strict separation of church (religion) and state, and homosexual-friendly, so his libertarian leanings are probably those of the good kind.
I’m glad he is a federal judge now. For the moment I’d rather Trump chose Amy.
I’ve attended social gatherings in Austin where Don Willet attended. I never knew who he was at the time and never talked to him.
One of our best friends personally knows Willet. The friend is very active in Rep affairs in Texas state government. They think Willet will be a great candidate for the USSC.
Willet is a conservative Republican.

Now, do not read this as an endorsement of Donald Trump, who has promised to appoint a conservative justice.
Trump breaks his promises easily and with an arrogant frequency.
Yet if he sticks with his list of candidates - which includes Texas Supreme Court Justice Don Willett, an excellent choice - then there’s a good chance Scalia’s replacement will hold the Constitution in the same high regard.
Other candidates just as conservative, just as dedicated to the Constitution and without the Twitter footprint. He may well make it on to the bench but by the time the Democrats are through they will make him look racist, homophobic, misogynistic, and God know what else from his past Tweets. Does he really want that?
Judge Willet is a rock star!! I didn’t even think about him, but he’d be excellent!
