MUFFIN TOPS AT MCDONALD'S? NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT
Ad Age ^ | June 26, 2018

After McDonald's Corp. announced all-day breakfasts three years ago, it gradually forgot about mornings.

Overall sales have weakened in the U.S., market share has shrunk, and McDonald's has identified lost breakfast customers as the main culprit. Now the world's biggest restaurant company plans to fight back with discounts, breakfast catering and a ploy lifted straight from a 1997 "Seinfeld" episode -- selling only the tops of muffins.

"We took our eye off the ball on breakfast," Chief Financial Officer Kevin Ozan said at a May investor conference. "With everything else going on, we just lost a little focus on that breakfast day part." For McDonald's, breakfast has long been a stronghold, according to Linda VanGosen, VP of menu innovation for the U.S. It accounts for 25 percent of domestic sales, and mornings are the most profitable part of the day. But rivals are advertising cheap eats and some of them are moving to sell breakfast all day, too, taking the shine off McDonald's 2015 announcement. After reaching an all-time high in January, McDonald's shares are down more than 10 percent. "It had been a while, I think, before we had really focused in on talking to customers about that morning day part," VanGosen said in an interview.

“They just need to make sure they don’t donate the stumps to homeless shelters...”

Or chicken skins and lobster shells...

“Those McGriddle things are puke inducing “

really? I am so sorry.
I absolutely love sausage mcgriddles. The buns are infused with maple (flavored) syrup somehow, so it’s like having pancakes and sausage in sandwich form. And only two bucks. The only problem is that they are not that filling for the number of calories— over 470-something, and you feel like you want more than one.

Could never understand why anyone would buy food without flavor, which is what low fat means imo.

If you buy an Egg McMuffin without the yolk then you haven’t bought an egg McMuffin you’ve bought an egg white McMuffin. Low fat ice cream is another example of tasteless food as are pastries made without butter.

If you are wanting low valley food, order yourself a watercress sandwich on whole wheat bread and hold the whole wheat bread.

It's called ham.

McDonald’s would do well to remember what made them a success: Not ‘good’ food... FAST food!

If it can be good too, that’s great. But, first and foremost, I choose McD’s because I KNOW it will be quick.

It’s not the fat content, it’s the carbs in the bread that causes the problem. Same with 99% of all fast food, it comes wrapped in bread. But when you’re eating and driving, you can’t eat a salad or other such entree needing a fork.

Without the hollandaise sauce and the runny yolk, it’s not even in the ballpark of an eggs benedict.

Canadian bacon isn’t.

It is ham.

They lost breakfast customers because they increased prices for breakfast about 30-40%. not 6 years ago I could get a sausage egg McMuffin meal w/hashbrown and coffee for much less than $5. Now it’s over $6.

I love maple syrup, but for some reason they just taste gross.

Nothing you can do to salvage an over cooked egg. Any broken yoke is dog food when I’m cooking.

How cool is this? Our *new* McD has a young man who gives the Labs 2 *free* chicken nuggests at the drve thru...the emplyees love to see the goofball dogs take a soft-serve cone and wolf it down in one bite.

It’s their entertainment for the week. ...the whole crew comes to the window and laughs their heads off at the performance.

You can see that living far-far north has it quirks. We don’t buy anything for ourselves, just the hounds.

Hysterical. What a hoot.

"Two fried nuggets and a cone".

Needs to be *four* chicken nuggets. ;-)

I find the Egg McMuffin to be inedible since I do not care for over hard eggs. Now, if it were scrambled???

They’re ‘overhard’ for a reason. Otherwise when you bite into it the yolk squirts out and runs all over.

Fine, but an overhard egg is inedible. I do not like the taste of egg yoke.
