Police shot and killed an unarmed teen who ran away from a traffic stop Tuesday night in East Pittsburgh, authorities said.
Authorities identified the dead teen as 17-year-old Antwon Rose, a Woodland Hills High School student who district officials said was one English class shy of graduating. He had been riding in a car linked to a non-fatal shooting 13 minutes earlier on North Braddock's Kirkpatrick Avenue, according to Allegheny County police.
A 22-year-old man wounded in the North Braddock shooting was treated and released from a hospital.
The deadly shooting in East Pittsburgh happened at 8:40 after borough police pulled over a car near Grandview Avenue and Howard Street about 1½ miles from the scene of the North Braddock shooting. Officials said the car matched the description of one involved in the earlier shooting and appeared to have gunfire damage to its back window.
As an officer arrested the 20-year-old driver, two people ran from the car, police said. The officer opened fire, hitting Rose.
Rose was taken to UPMC McKeesport, where he was pronounced dead at 9:19 p.m., officials said.

“What a low opinion of the police.”
I’ve been on the receiving end of bad police far too many times. And you know what really makes you understand how bad some police departments are?
Good cops. That’s what.
Whether the damage was new or old, "a silver Chevrolet Cruze with gunfire damage to its back window" is a MUCH better description than, for example, "a silver minivan" would be. The police officer had enough information for a reasonable belief that the occupants of the car posed an immediate danger to others. At that point, a runner looks like a would-be killer trying to (1) dump the evidence, or (2) shoot anyone else on his list.
Absolutely; if a cop can’t shoot in this case they may as well give up their guns. If the kids lay down in the street with arms outstretched they wouldn’t have been shot.
In the film Sleeper the Woody Allen character found out he missed the last months of college and didn’t get out of hibernation by cryogenic freezing until a century later.
“I could have graduated with a few more classes. I majored in Black Studies. If I finished I could have been black by now.”
Right.
And remember, all of us, please:
When a white sees a criminal matter go the wrong way or a bill not passed in Congress, or OJ freed by a racist jury against ALL evidence then the white is unhappy and quiet.
When blacks see the beginning of a probable matter for trial with charges possible against a police officer, usually with the last few seconds of a smart phone video showing only one side of the story!) then they scream, shout, yell, chant, pound their feet, make fists, throw rocks and bricks at store and bank windows, threaten to kill random whites, and then really get mad after that!
I literally lived in the City of Detroit as a Wayne State University student in 1967 as the Detroit black riots began and I delivered campus mail from the college mail trucks with an armed National Guardsman with his rifle pointing outward from his perch on the running board. I know what I’m saying.
News helicopter has been circling over my neighborhood for the past 15 min. I guess some social justice is taking place.
unarmed established after the fact.....
That petite cop last year said she hesitated with her gun because she was afraid of being the next national headline Darren Wilson. How sad and also angering that PC news media caused an officer to be suffering from a bullet wound and might have died over their attitude in news coverage lies.
Some women’s talk shows still say “Hands Up Don’t Shoot” for that giant felon who was trying to disarm and beat to death Officer Darren Wilson as shown by blood droplets, dna and clothing evidence inside the patrol car. The 300 pounder was about to kill the officer and there were no hands up.
