President Donald Trump signed an executive order Wednesday that he says will keep migrant families together during detention on the U.S.-Mexico border.
The president will not abandon his "zero tolerance" policy of criminally prosecuting all adults who cross U.S. borders illegally.
Earlier, he signaled he would sign a measure to stop his administration's splitting of migrant families.
"I'll be signing something in a little while that's going to do that," he told reporters during a White House event after saying he wanted families to be kept together. "I'll be doing something that's somewhat pre-emptive and ultimately will be matched by legislation I'm sure."
Trump added: "We're keeping families together, but we have to keep our borders strong. We will be overrun with crime and with people that should not be in our country."
The order is expected to allow families to be housed together even while adults in the family are being detained or prosecuted for crossing the U.S. border illegally or for seeking asylum at the border outside of a designated border entry point.

Senator Cruz first proposed this a few days ago. I'm not one who's quick to praise Sen. Cruz (if at all), but on this kind of situation I will. Cruz is a real, real sharp lawyer. He saw the situation, seems to have realized that the maniacs over-reached with their "poor children" rhetoric, and solved the problem in a way that won't let the invaders run free.
I'm the most pro-child person you'll ever meet. This is indeed a compassionate solution. I wonder how many of these migrants will choose to go home now that they can't use their or whomever's children as a free pass to illegally enter the US.

It could take until October 1, 2031 to build the wall.
It won’t be finished for over nine years simply because of annual funding limitations.
From the “moderate” bill:

(1) IN GENERAL.—Of the amount appropriated in subsection (a)(1)—
(A) $2,241,000,000 shall become available October 1, 2018;
(B) $1,808,000,000 shall become available October 1, 2019;
(C) $1,715,000,000 shall become available October 1, 2020;
(D) $2,140,000,000 shall become available October 1, 2021;
(E) $1,735,000,000 shall become available October 1, 2022;
(F) $1,746,000,000 shall become available October 1, 2023;
(G) $1,776,000,000 shall become available October 1, 2024;
(H) $1,746,000,000 shall become available October 1, 2025; and
(I) $1,718,000,000 shall become available October 1, 2026.
(2) PERIOD OF AVAILABILITY.—An amount made available under subparagraph (A), (B), (C), (D), (E), (F), (G), (H), or (I) of paragraph (1) shall remain available for five years after the date specified in that subparagraph.”
By restricting funding, they are making it impossible for Trump to build his wall system during his Presidency.
