The reactions will only continue as the week goes on after President Donald Trump disinvited the Eagles to the White House a day before the Super Bowl champions were scheduled to visit (see story).
Politicians with local ties made their voices heard Monday night, while the president also sent out a tweet restating his stance behind the decision (see story).
Some current and former NFL players also chimed in on the news.
"I guess he was upset with the delegation we were sending," Eagles safety Rodney McLeod said of Trump's decision in a text message to NBC Sports Philadelphia's Derrick Gunn.
Former Eagle Torrey Smith, who played a key role in the team's Super Bowl run, tweeted:
There are a lot of people on the team that have plenty of different views. The men and women that wanted to go shouldve been able to go. Its a cowardly act to cancel the celebration because the majority of the people dont want to see you. To make it about the anthem is foolish— Torrey Smith (@TorreySmithWR) June 4, 2018
So many lies smh
Here are some facts
1. Not many people were going to go
2. No one refused to go simply because Trump insists folks stand for the anthem
3. The President continues to spread the false narrative that players are anti military pic.twitter.com/89GUNhJ4eE— Torrey Smith (@TorreySmithWR) June 4, 2018

Exactly. If the NFL promoted patriotism and American values then publicly visiting the White house would be something that would honor the Eagles. The NFL's millionaire thugs have publicly demonstrated about being anti-American for far to long. The NFL's anti-American stance has become toxic, there is no reason at all to honor them.
I don't know where to start with this moronic comment.
Torrey Smith said he wouldn’t go to a party thrown by anyone who is “sexist or has no respect for women.” That’s rich - he plays at that party every Sunday. How many of his fellow players beat the stuff out of women, including his fellow teammate, Nelson Agholor?
But theyre never called racists. Activists instead
No matter how wrong or thuggish they defend. King Rodney. Thugvon. St Mikey Brown.
Race obsessed = biased = racist
Dear Eagles, dear NFL. We do no longer care. We rather see that Trump spends time with veterans or active military or police officers then with spoiled multi-million cry babies. We voted for Trump and we did not vote for you people. So go away and leave us alone.
Exactly.
The team was trying to make a political statement by sending only about 10 players. Trump felt that was an insult and engineered to make him look bad, so he turned the tables. Good for him. And I say this as an Eagle’s fan. Really disappointed that the team decided to inject politics into football.
Simply stated, I couldn’t care any more about NFL players’ political opinions than I do about those of Hollywood actors. In my opinion, whether playing someone else or playing a game for a living, that person has less political insight and practical experience than most average Americans.
Josh. You can’t impeach the POTUS because YOU don’t like him or he makes YOU sad. Hire somebody to read and explain the U.S. Constitution to you.
As an Eagles fan from the Philadelphia area, I’m done with football...I’m so fed up with politics and sports. I freed up all my Sundays-—besides, they already won the Superbowl, no need to watch them anymore. However, I still support the strong Christians on the team-—
Good point-—I agree.
These crybaby thugs need to check their concussioned privilege.
NFL millionairre poseur thug crybabies.
Good Going President Trump!
Excellent Move!
President Trump always does and says the Right Thing!
The NFL is a JOKE!
That'll get you more game attendance, Chris-For-Brains!
A key part of respecting the country is respecting the President. The response to being invited to the White House to meet the President should be to honor the position of the President, not who is in the role.
Whats ironic is that if any occupant of the Presidential role deserved disrespect, it was the Manchurian candidate, illegal alien, pro-communist BO.
Aww the meatheads are upset. Feels sorry for the Mrs. Meatheads, they will probably bear the frustrations with a whooping.
Whine and spin...
They are a team. So they can be judged as a team. That is what football is all about. Football is the ultimate team sport. There is nothing else in sports that quite compares to the “Team” aspect of the game. If there are Eagles that are upset about it, they should fix their team.
I don’t blame Trump. Why risk a scene and headlines because someone wanted to pull a political stunt that would get media attention. They want to make Trump look bad and Trump didn’t want to risk it.
I heard an interview with Lane Johnson (the right offensive tackle) and they asked him about the white house before this went down. He said (paraphrase) "I'm not political and I don't really care much. I'll just do what the team wants to do. But it would be really cool to get a private tour of the white house and all that ...". In other words "yeah, I want to go but Chris Long and Malcolm Jenkins will think I'm disrespecting them if I do so I have to miss it thanks to them and their selfish SJW BS".
