Jeep was always the most valuable part of Chrysler, in the last two decades. That nameplate is iconic, all around the world.

Euro companies just cannot adjust to US mass production numbers. And US Unions...

So, with Plymouth already gone, that would leave Dodge and Jeep as the two brands produced by, ahem, Chrysler Corporation.

In the 1990s Chrysler was on fire. What a decline!

They should have brought back that rich, Corinthian leather.

Chrsysler is mainly a car company with a mini van

Given that Chrysler has only 2 vehicles - the 300 and the Pacifica, this is an easy choice. I think Chrysler was a failed attempt at a luxury nameplate. Concentrating on Jeep and Dodge makes sense really. Just terminate the silly 300 and rebrand the Pacifica.

Have to wonder what kind of figures figure into this.

All I know is the Fiat little POS Luigi car is a bust, as it should be, despite the novelty. So pulling out of the US would be wise. Not sure Chrysler has to be chopped if that is done. And as stated, maybe if anything Jeep should be continued.

If this doesn’t kill Lee Iacocca, I don’t know what would.

Bring back the K- car to save it. Said no one, ever.

The mere mention of that car makes me want to punch someone.

From the article, with emphasis:

If Marchionne actually kills the Chrysler brand, it would be the end of a nameplate with over 90 years of history in the United States. However, the lineup consists of just two models today: the ancient 300 sedan and the still fresh Pacifica minivan. With so few products, axing Chrysler is easier than ever.

Chrysler is indeed dead. And Jeeps (gasp) are next to die.

Already the Jeep lineup is nothing more than Fiats with a Jeep name on them.

Even before the current Italian ownership - Jeeps like the Patriot and the Compass were bread and butter low rent models.

And the Wrangler? It’s just a matter of time before suckers quit paying north of $40,000 for a niche vehicle that can’t haul or tow anything, and gets horrible gas mileage.

But for now, Chrysler Fiat can keep on making old relics like the Charger and the Durango. That is until gas goes north of $4.00 a gallon. If/when that happens - Adios Mofo.

If they want to save Chrysler, all they have to do is bring this back:

Hey! all you United Auto Workers Union. Its only Wednesday. You have two days to organize a strike against Chrysler. Last chance. Send them off with a bang. Let everyone know the real reason all of the auto brands are leaving America, or just can’t compete with Japan, Korea, Europe, etc.

Jeep was always the most valuable part of Chrysler, in the last two decades.

And before, the most valuable part of AMC.

I wonder if they've tried to sell Chrysler (less Jeep) to the Indians or the Chinese who might be able to leverage the dealer network and eventually shut down the legacy manufacturing. The Dodge truck brand should be worth something to someone like Tata (Jaguar), Chery, Geely (Volvo), or Guangzhou.

I own the old Jeep Cherokee and still have it. I swear it still has the engine light on and driven it a further 8 years with that light on. Amazing.

my wife was set up with a Jeep Grand Cherokee as a rental while her F150 was in the body shop (a dumbass in Boise hit the driver's side rear door in a parking lot). Nice vehicle. Nicer than the 2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid we previously owned.

I read that the PT Cruiser was cancelled because some bigwig in the company did not like it. With stupid business decisions like that, it is no wonder the company is failing.

I have been looking at cars the last few days. The Chevy dealer has lots of different models, as does the Ford dealer. But Chrysler has just two models. When I saw that, my first thought was that Chrysler is on its way out. I think I’ll just have my PT Cruiser repainted and keep it a while longer.

Mercedes owned Jeep for a few years.
There vision was to extend the jeep brand to travel, vacations, clothing, etc.

Then they got cold feet...

They killed Jeep for off-roaders when they quit making real 4wd vehicles.

Jeep is now a joke.
