Landmark lawsuit claims Monsanto hid cancer danger of weedkiller for decades
The Guardian ^ | May 22, 2018 | Carey Gillam

In June, a California groundskeeper will make history by taking company to trial on claims it suppressed harm of Roundup

At the age of 46, DeWayne Johnson is not ready to die. But with cancer spread through most of his body, doctors say he probably has just months to live. Now Johnson, a husband and father of three in ( California), hopes to survive long enough to make Monsanto take the blame for his fate.

On 18 June, Johnson will become the first person to take ( the global seed and chemical company) to trial on allegations that it has spent decades hiding the cancer-causing dangers of its popular Roundup herbicide products – and his case has just received a major boost.

Last week Judge Curtis Karnow (issued an order) clearing the way for jurors to consider not just scientific evidence related to what caused Johnson’s cancer, but allegations that Monsanto suppressed evidence of the risks of its weed killing products. Karnow ruled that the trial will proceed and a jury would be allowed to consider possible punitive damages.

I didn’t realize dihydrogen monoxide was used as a propellant in Naval warships. No wonder you can find large quantities of it in every major fresh and salt-water body in the world.

Not obscured by piggy backing it on another molecule it doesn't. Then creating seeds or plants which thru genetic manipulation which exclude uptake of same? !

Nice gig while it lasted.

I don’t know...maybe other do. But like other dis-inventions, what usually replaces it is much more expensive, not as good, or both.

Glyphosate is the active ingredient in Roundup. Bayer makes a broad-spectrum product called Spectricide that does not contain glyphosate.

It works OK.

Time to STOCK UP on Round-Up, friends. And be prepared to spend WAY MORE for food, once it is pulled from the market.

I already pay more, for organic products, to avoid the poison Monsanto inflicts on our "food" supply. RoundUp, high fructose corn syrup spiking obesity and diabetes, SOY SOY SOY in every damn thing, reducing testosterone and fertility rates in boys. And then we have corn ethanol mandate (massive corporate welfare). Muck Fonsanto.

Now, moving on to di-hydrogen monoxide and it’s dangers.

Hey! That's a CHEMICAL! Don't get it anywhere near me!

Roundup and most toxic ag chemicals are designed to decompose quickly under sunlight.

Given that the food supply has been found to contain round-ups active ingredient, it appears not all of it gets exposed to sunlight before it is absorbed.

We used Round-Up for 23+yrs at the nursery and on customers’ properties, and I’ve never heard of a single case of cancer.
Unless maybe you drink a glass of it for lunch each day......

Same here. We've used it here at our property since it was first available in the 1970's with no ill effects to humans or livestock.

On another note, I have a paver patio that was not properly installed - ants bed under it and have caused it to sink in places then weeds try to grow between the pavers. What can I put out to keep weeds from sprouting? If I just use RoundUp, they come back in few weeks. I want something that will not allow them to return, yet won't be so toxic that it kills plants in the bordering flower bed.

:(

Well, after it is properly mined.

Please post your family health records here, so we can verify this claim... please include BMI, current medications (if any), treatment history, etc.

“Unless maybe you drink a glass of it for lunch each day”

Years ago, when they were first starting to push Roundup, a factory rep came to our tree improvement cooperative meeting and told us one of the chemical engineers drank a glass to show how safe it was...

exactly, how are they going to prove the cancer came from the weed killer? people get cancer without being exposed to harsh chemicals all the time- IF there was a rash of people- a majority, getting cancer who used roundup- then ok- there might be something to the claim- but how many people have had their cancer directly linked to roundup?

That’s like when they banned cigarette smoking in hospital parking lots- how in the world could they ever prove that someone walking into a hospital got cancer from someone down the other end of the lot smoking? Where is the DIRECT link? How can it be proved? IF a majority of the people walking into hospitals through parking lots ended up with cancer- then yeah- there might be a case there- but a couple of people winding up with cancer does NOT prove they got it walking through the parking lot when the majority of people going through the lot never get cancer

Should not be sold without a prescription

Prescription? That's lunacy driven by the worst kind of chemicalphobia.

....even in the stores that carry this deadly product

Deadly product? Good grief.

Glyphosate inhibits an enzyme that plants need to grow. The enzyme is called EPSP synthase. Without this enzyme, the plant cannot create the proteins required to grow, which will, eventually, lead to the plant’s death. Because most plants use this enzyme, most are susceptible to glyphosate applications. Humans and animals do not use EPSP synthase.

People fear glyphosate because they don't know what it is. The media and sue happy attorneys count on that ignorance to pursue their agenda. Meanwhile, everyone else gets to enjoy plentiful food at competitive prices.
