My father is Black, and my mother is Puerto Rican. As a biracial woman, I'm very familiar with questions like, "What are you?" "But what do you consider yourself?" and insinuations of "But is she really Black?" And as much as I wish I could say this type of thinking was unique to my childhood or some less-progressive era long ago, it's something I still deal with today. Yup, in 2018. For some people, regardless of their race (and sometimes even my own friends and family) it's apparently very difficult to understand the concept that a person can proudly embrace and claim two cultures and races with open arms. But obviously, I love both of my parents equally. How could I ever be expected to choose one side or the other? How can anyone expect a person of mixed descent to simply pick or try to dictate what their identity is for them?
Meghan Markle is not a stranger to this narrative. The daughter of a white father and a Black mother, she has spoken and even written about the complications that have come with her racial ambiguity. In a poignant essay for Elle UK in 2015 (a year before she began dating Prince Harry), she wrote: "Being biracial paints a blurred line that is equal parts staggering and illuminating." Her race has also has been at the center of the conversation surrounding her entry into the royal family, to the point where Prince Harry had to release a statement asking the media to back off. Even in her engagement interview with BBC which should have been about nothing but her newfound happiness Markle had to address the attention on her race, calling it "disheartening" and "a shame."

I am so sick of black everything. Black governors, black lieutenant governors, black national anthem singers. Let them ge back to being seven percent of the population.
ML/NJ
Mmmm fewer apologies I guess.
Who cares what race she is. These “royals” are a bunch of pro abort liberals.
Octoroon.....not mulatto?
Black, black, black, black, blah, blah, blah....
Just STFU. Live your life. Nobody cares about your “color”, or lack thereof. Party’s over.
STOP THE WORSHIP OF POP CULTURE!
Saying that a very White woman made somebody proud to be Black when nothing at her wedding was very Black isn't necessarily a sign of the apocalypse or of insanity. It's something people can smile at or chuckle over.
Sickening
I’m a melanin enriched American, but I was raised, Family First, Country Second, and ethnicity a distant third..
We are all Rachel Dolezal!
The black choir singing “Stand by Me” were British and were recommended by Prince Charles from what I heard.
The black preacher....the head of the American Episcopal church....was supposedly recommended to the Archbishop of Canterbury by the Dean of Windsor (I think that’s his title), the man in charge of St. George’s Chapel.
The talented black cello player...Sheku Mason...is from a talented family of musicians....all of them British. They were all profiled on “CBS Sunday Morning” this past Sunday.
Don’t try to understand the lunatic left and what they say.
Incessant, self-absorbed navel-gazing at it finest!
Don’t Meghan and similar people have anything better to think about? Interracial marriage and heritage are nothing new. You are what you are, not much you can do about it, and if other people don’t like your mixed race heritage, tell them to take it up with the Creator.
Lost? No. The white man lost his racism and the blacks found it. They've been using it to their advantage to extort freebies for a half century.
Somehow, the civil rights movement has gone from the idea that “race” is a superficial trait signifying little or nothing, to the idea that race determines everything about you, e.g., what clothes you should wear, what food you should prefer, what music you should like, and what you should think about morals and politics.
Exactly freaking right...
We are suposed to extremely care abput race at the same time we are to completely ignore it.
I have no fuchs left to give about race. Or those who base a parasitic existence off race baiting.
I thought what’s-his-name that she married was white?
Black supremacy at last!
Glad to hear she made it black. Seems to me there was another person at the altar. I wonder what part of it was him? The location, the money, and the high end apartment.
I guess whitey is rich enough to pay for TWO receptions.
