GOP congressman: 'Most of the public' doubts Assad used chemical gas
Washington Examiner ^ | April 13, 2018

Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., says he believes a majority of the public doubts the official U.S. government contention that Syrian President Bashar Assad used chemical gas against the final rebel-held town near Damascus.

“Anybody who has tried to explain to me why Assad would do this sounds like a conspiracy theorist,” said Massie, a libertarian Republican from Kentucky. “It requires really contorted thinking to think Assad did this. You have to come up with very complicated reasons.”

“I cannot think of a reason he would,” Massie said.

Because its proven that WMD is the surest way to draw the US into a war, and a lot of people desperately want a war right now.

Who cares in Assad did use gas( I don’t think he did. Why should he since he was winning and using these weapons would only bring heat on him). This isn’t our fight and why risk sending our troops into harms way to defend a group who is just as bad as Assad? Both sides are rotten and to get mixed up in this mess would bring misery to all concerned.

I don’t have enough tinfoil for all the conspiracy theorist and armchair analysts that have come out on these Syrian issue threads.

I would argue that Assad is the least rotten, unlike the al Qaeda-backed jihadis we’ve thrown our lot in with.

I really couldn't care less if both sides gas each other back to the stone age. Syria is little more than a religious war where one group of America hating radical Islamists is fighting a group of perhaps ever-so-slightly less America hating group of radical Islamists. Our best hope is they both destroy each other, either way, we don't belong anywhere near that s**t show....

Cancel the entire intel budget and hire pollsters to determine foreign policy!

Why not? They're at least as honest as our intelligence community.

We haven’t seen any evidence to date.

We’re told that there is evidence an agent was used. But we’re not given evidence that Assad or his forces did it.

I suspect that Trump is holding off for just that reason.

Who wants the USA to stay in the region? There a lot of them. Which ones had the means, motive, and opportunity? There are a lot of them.

My guess is that Pres Trump is trying to sort that out.

In times of war, the public is not entitled to secret evidence.

Frankly, you are uninformed.

It doesn’t matter what the public thinks in a case like this. None of us know the facts. Heck even the CIA doesn’t know what happened if you believe what they say.

Rand Paul would tell you we’re not at war, but to be fair, our troops are in harm’s way.

But there is a way to state that incontrovertible evidence exists and that it involves spies or techniques that cannot be revealed.

I listened on one Fox show yesterday to a host reading of DOD Secty Mattis affirming that evidence exists of the attack but guilt has not yet been established.

They are war mongers. I wouldn’t listen to anything they say. Not credible sources in my opinion.

Has anyone bothered to ask the Syrian people who they think did this?

~~~~
Just like in America, it very likely only depends on who (which side) you ask. It doesn’t help to ask a randomly selected Syrian who they think did it now. They’re only going to give an opinion based on their allegiances, affinities, and alignments.
As a libertarian, I also do not believe it is our job to be the arbiter of moral dispensations around the world. But we have two problems; (1) This was chemical weapons used on civilians, women & children, not stray mortar fire or guerilla action or normal ‘warfare’. (2) We’re not out of Syria (yet). Can’t just say ‘ not our problem’
