how about if they want to sell my info, they need permission, and they should expect to pay a royalty.
Does this mean I would have to pay for each of my fake accounts?
In some ways that’s correct.
Unfortunately even if that was how the Internet worked, everyone else with whom you conduct personal business, including every one of your financial transactions, is also data that is being sold and traded to the same folks that get your data from Internet activities. Amazon does not merely know everything about your buying activity with them, they trade that data with others too. With Amazon and others like them you are both a customer and a commodity.
Sounds reasonable. Facebook is a business, and if you want no ads and privacy just click here to start your monthly subscription. You can trust FB to ensure your privacy. You can trust FB to not collect data and package it up for marketers, politcal groups, governments... really, sure you can.
Side note- I’ve got some ocean front property in Arizona. It’s great. From the front porch you can see the sea..
I could see her argument if Facebook was starting up anew. But as its popularity grew, so did what most people would call its abusive use of that data, even if it was technically covered in legalese.
Facebook led people to believe that the invasion of their privacy and commercialization of their data would be minimal. As the invasiveness of its data-mining grew, it buried what was going on in the terms of service contracts that hardly anyone could understand.
It reminds me of Darth Vader’s line, “Pray I do not change the deal further.”
People tell EVERYONE their business and are SHOCKED that folks know their business.
I am bad at names, data bases make that easy.
Facebook COO Says Users Should Expect to Pay for Privacy
And if you pay them money, you are getting something for your money. In this case, it seems to be privacy.
While different forms of opt-out are already available on Facebook, an opt-out at the highest level would be a paid product, Sandberg said...
Yes, Fascistbook members, YOU (your personal data) are their product.
And Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Google................
Facebooks second in command Sheryl Sandberg said, “While different forms of opt-out are already available on Facebook, an opt-out at the highest level would be a paid product,
What Facebooks second in command Sheryl Sandbergan either doesn’t understand or even realize an opt-out at the highest level would be to opt-out of Facebook!
She sounds as arrogant as Facebook’s first in command!
I know a better way, never join Facebook at all.
Surely Sandberg wouldn’t mind everybody getting HER information. Right Sheryl?
He’s absolutely right. The revenue stream is selling information. If you want a social network that treats your info like it’s all HIPPA expect to pay $30 a month for it. Because then you’re the customer not the product.
should she, and the other criminals, pay their
conduct, and then for their freedom?
The Circle was a great movie. It nailed these social media freaks.
And just like that *poof* Facebook disappeared.
Always remember — If a service is free, YOU are the product.
What about the states selling your personal data ???
I just registered a motor vehicle in Florida and within a week got 2 pieces of U.S. mail spamming about car warranties.
No loan involved, just require by law state registration.
Now I PAY FOR THAT PRIVILEGE TO DRIVE, state has no right to sell my data.
It’s “free” because we sell your personal information. If you don’t want us to sell it, we will charge you, and go ahead and sell it anyway until we get caught when we will blame the nearest Republican.
Funny how she mentions opting out as an option...
