Facebook COO Says Users Should Expect to Pay for Privacy

I don’t disagree with this. They offer a service. If you don’t pay for it they get to set the rules. You can always refuse to use it. That’s what T&C is all about.

And if you pay them money, you are getting something for your money. In this case, it seems to be privacy.

Exactly, it is a business, not a charity. It is called there is no free lunch. Having a general idea of their business model, and the others too, I am NOT a member of social media.

The problem is they would take your money and then sell your information anyway.

The information is more valuable to them than your money.

Facebook COO Says Users Should Expect to Pay for Privacy

I would bet $50 dollars to a donut within a short period of time if the privacy list reached large numbers it too would be harvested and sold.

If you believe otherwise than you also probably believe that the "Government is here to help you."

MY POINT: Whether it's the Government or Facebook.. if there's MONEY to be made by selling YOU out than expect it to happen.

The only way around this is to avoid using them altogether. Unfortunately there are those who cannot live without participating in all of the unnecessary social media amenities.

“And if you pay them money, you are getting something for your money. In this case, it seems to be privacy.”

“Seems” is a good way to say it. With the track record they have, I’m not sure I’d trust them, even if they had a”Pay for Privacy” type account.

I suspect this is another perversion of the truth from them. OK, I pay for Privacy, but my “friend” does not. What happens to anything I say to my “friend”? Does my privacy curtain extend that far? I doubt it. Most likely, I have “privacy” as long as I don’t post anything. This statement from the COO is intended to lull the suckers back to sleep in my view.

Full disclosure: I don’t have a Facebook account.
