Facebooks second in command Sheryl Sandberg said Friday that users wanting to opt out of having their data used by advertisers will have to pay for that assurance.
The comments came in the wake of revelations that the personal information of 87 million users had been inappropriately used by the data firm Cambridge Analytica in the 2016 election campaign, the New York Post reported.
While different forms of opt-out are already available on Facebook, an opt-out at the highest level would be a paid product, Sandberg said during an interview on NBC's "Today" show, the Post reported.
Furthermore, Sandberg suggested that the public has not seen the last of Facebooks privacy scandal.

He’s absolutely right. The revenue stream is selling information. If you want a social network that treats your info like it’s all HIPPA expect to pay $30 a month for it. Because then you’re the customer not the product.
should she, and the other criminals, pay their
conduct, and then for their freedom?
They got your permission when you accepted the terms. And no royalties weren’t in the agreement you clicked Yes on without reading.
The Circle was a great movie. It nailed these social media freaks.
And just like that *poof* Facebook disappeared.
Always remember — If a service is free, YOU are the product.
FB did no such thing. People made assumptions. FB was quite up front that all (ALL the data) the data was theirs to do with as they pleased and they pleased to make money with it. There have been mini versions of this “scandal” repeatedly throughout FB’s history, people just don’t pay attention, and then they blame everybody but themselves.
What about the states selling your personal data ???
I just registered a motor vehicle in Florida and within a week got 2 pieces of U.S. mail spamming about car warranties.
No loan involved, just require by law state registration.
Now I PAY FOR THAT PRIVILEGE TO DRIVE, state has no right to sell my data.
NONE of this can happen to me. I never used Facebook or any other ‘social media’. I can be social enough with my telephone & with in person contacts.
I NEVER do any purchasing online. I NEVER do any bill paying online. I do purchase auto parts from Summit Racing & horse supplies from a catalog, but I actually SPEAK to the employees at those facilities & handle my business with them in that manner.
I get very good customer service with them. both, especially Summit Racing, since I have older vehicles that the local ‘auto parts stores’ no longer have IN THEIR COMPUTERS. Summit never lets me down.
I have resisted the ‘social media’ crap for years & I kept telling people their information was NOT private there. NOW-—I really laugh at them.
They provide the service for “free” by using your “monthly royalty” to pay for the service...
Your monthly royalty price is the total lack of privacy......
It’s “free” because we sell your personal information. If you don’t want us to sell it, we will charge you, and go ahead and sell it anyway until we get caught when we will blame the nearest Republican.
She sounds as arrogant as Facebooks first in command!”””
Birds of a feather..........
Same thing here in Nevada. The worst part? NO ONE will be giving me ‘extended warranties’ on a 1976 Chevy 1 ton truck & a 1979 Buick station wagon-—both of which were bought from private parties !!!
Just registered truck again. Wonder how many ‘warranties’ I will get this time around???
Funny how she mentions opting out as an option...
Guess the bitch is leaning forward... right into my personal space.
Sheryl Sandberg uses “paid product” as a synonym for “extortion”.
FakeBook update-—
Gives to meaning to “Pay-to-Play”, right?
Sheryl “Guido” Sandberg... explain’n how she sees the world and making cash flow in her direction.
The problem is they would take your money and then sell your information anyway.
The information is more valuable to them than your money.
