Facebooks second in command Sheryl Sandberg said Friday that users wanting to opt out of having their data used by advertisers will have to pay for that assurance.
The comments came in the wake of revelations that the personal information of 87 million users had been inappropriately used by the data firm Cambridge Analytica in the 2016 election campaign, the New York Post reported.
While different forms of opt-out are already available on Facebook, an opt-out at the highest level would be a paid product, Sandberg said during an interview on NBC's "Today" show, the Post reported.
Furthermore, Sandberg suggested that the public has not seen the last of Facebooks privacy scandal.

The other day I heard something on the radio that made perfect sense. It went something like this...
When a product or a service is usable for free, you are the product.
You had a better response than I did!
Wow! Really?
I would bet $50 dollars to a donut within a short period of time if the privacy list reached large numbers it too would be harvested and sold.
If you believe otherwise than you also probably believe that the "Government is here to help you."
MY POINT: Whether it's the Government or Facebook.. if there's MONEY to be made by selling YOU out than expect it to happen.
The only way around this is to avoid using them altogether. Unfortunately there are those who cannot live without participating in all of the unnecessary social media amenities.
And now that they were caught, they are not onky unapologetic but are trying to make even more money off it.
Liberals!
Your post #32 is TRUE to a “T”... it’s exactly how it works and what would eventually happen.
“And if you pay them money, you are getting something for your money. In this case, it seems to be privacy.”
“Seems” is a good way to say it. With the track record they have, I’m not sure I’d trust them, even if they had a”Pay for Privacy” type account.
I suspect this is another perversion of the truth from them. OK, I pay for Privacy, but my “friend” does not. What happens to anything I say to my “friend”? Does my privacy curtain extend that far? I doubt it. Most likely, I have “privacy” as long as I don’t post anything. This statement from the COO is intended to lull the suckers back to sleep in my view.
Full disclosure: I don’t have a Facebook account.
Zuckerburg...The Mordecai Jones of the electronic age.
The service is free to use. Your data, as clarified in the terms of service, is what you pay to use it free.
Don’t want them using your data? Don’t give it to them.
Actually it IS happening to you. The bigs collect and move around data all the time. Even without an account FB has a data file on you.
It’s a post privacy world, you’re just generating data in it.
Just like government politicians: Cause a problem, then create a program that claims to solve the problem . . . for a price.
It’s 2018; there’s still no such thing as a free lunch.
That remark is about 15 on the arrogance scale of 1-10!
How about if you don't like Facebook's privacy policies, then go find another sandbox to play in. No one is making you use Facebook, tweeter, or any other social media. If you are concerned about personal privacy, then don't use social media.
“Is anyone actually naive enough to think Facebook, or any other website for that matter, will give you free access, pay to maintain the equipment and software, and pay employees to program and maintain the websites, and not expect something in return?”
Sure, the same type of people, who use Free Republic daily and never pay anything.
If you go to any web page that has the FB logo on it, e.g., YouTube, they are collecting data on you. ANY page with the FB logo. If you do one Google search, they are collecting more data than FB, Twitter, etc.
A person doesn’t have to be on any social media in order to be a victim. I was all self righteous believing I was safe ‘cause I was on no social media. Then I saw a couple news clips on Fox, and a read an article on the subject. I had been terribly wrong.
“She sounds as arrogant as Facebooks first in command!”
I mean what could possibly go wrong when a couple of Secular Progressive Capos get together to try an liberate some of your hard-earned money. It’s what they always do!
I have to admit, Zuck said a mouthfull. I happen to agree 1000% with that.
What do you want for nothing? A Rubber Biscuit.
That doesn’t explain away not making his users 100% aware of what was being done with the data, but it simply cannot work any other way.
That’s the reason I use a Paid VPN, a Paid Password Manager, Paid GitHub, ect... At least I can rationalize that I have some privacy whether I do or not.
They should offer a paid product. Why not? That model is used everywhere now.
I disagree, this is the first sane thing he has said.
