The Justice Department announced Friday that it is implementing a “zero-tolerance” policy for prosecuting those attempting to enter the U.S. illegally -- the latest in a series of measures by the Trump administration to combat illegal immigration.
“The situation at our Southwest Border is unacceptable,” Attorney General Jeff Sessions said in a statement announcing the policy. “Congress has failed to pass effective legislation that serves the national interest -- that closes dangerous loopholes and fully funds a wall along our southern border. "
“As a result, a crisis has erupted at our Southwest Border that necessitates an escalated effort to prosecute those who choose to illegally cross our border,” he said.
The Trump administration says the number of attempted border crossings has increased by 203 percent since March 2017. In response, Trump this week signed a proclamation sending the National Guard to the border. He has said he would like to see 2,000-4,000 members sent to the border.
The latest move by the Justice Department orders U.S. attorneys along the border to adopt a policy of prosecuting all referrals from DHS of illegal entry and attempted illegal entry into the U.S. It comes almost a year after Sessions issued a memo to federal prosecutors directing them to prioritize certain immigration offenses.

What does “zero tolerance” mean when there is still “catch-and-release”?
My mind can't grasp the consequences of laws, treaties, judicial decisions, and participation in NATO and other organizations. Our military can defend other nations' borders but not our own? That's insane.
A small bit of circumstantial evidence that Sessions is still working for the President and may not, in fact, be sleeping under his desk.

He’d say (Swedish accent) “I shoot the leader, it vill take them a veek to find another.”
Sessions has plenty on his plate if indeed he is going to start prosecuting illegals. So, he needs to get at it and leave physically protecting the border to our military. We are being invaded and nothing is stopping those hell bent on getting here to ultimately become Demodummie voters. Perhaps “shoot to kill” might slow them down but it will NOT stop them.
Everything surrounding the illegal alien problem is insane.
Perhaps the DOJ should look for the individuals financing
the illegal activity. One can almost detect the disruptive odor of George Soros
behind the purple curtain.

I don’t even try to grasp that George Soros is free, was given US citizenship, and can freely donate to pols in both political parties. How is he not a far worse threat than those Russian oligarchs our gov loves to hate?

Can he do that? What if the attorneys won’t prosecute?
I don’t understand why they can’t be given a hearing date at the border crossing, then sent back across the border to Mexico, which has allowed them to be or where they are from. Then, on hearing date, present their papers at the border, hold the hearing out in the hot sun, or may at a NG supplied tent, turn down their application and again send them back across the border.
Nothing at all as long as there are "water mule" signs planted next to every claymore...
I’m sure some attorneys won’t prosecute, I believe this is a policy that some may ignore. Don’t know if he can replace those attorneys or not.
It’s a welcome improvement over Holder and Lynch’s DOJ though.

If they are allowed to shot on sight, that would be a giant leap, and what would stop all of this in your face illegal invasion attempts.
