Greek and Turkish fighter jets engaged in two dogfights over the Aegean on Thursday, after the Turkish jets violated Greek airspace 16 times in the northeast, central and southeastern Aegean, the Hellenic National Defense General Staff (HNDGS) said.
Six Turkish F-16 jets, one pair of F-4s and one CN-235 transport aircraft entered Athens's FIR without submitting a flight plan, and violated air traffic regulations seven times.
In all cases, the Turkish aircraft were identified and intercepted by Greek fighter planes in line with international rules of engagement. Six of the eight Turkish aircraft were armed.
Erdogan is drunk on his new relationship with Russia?
Both are NATO members. Who will NATO back?
“Dogfights”?
Who should we root for? Remember Greece was on the side of the Soviets when Flight 007 was shot down. A UC Cal graduate was the prime minister.
if there was no shooting, it’s not a dogfight
F4 vs. F16? Guns and not BVR?
F4 doesn’t have a chance.
Could have been radar-lock fight.
More like a dog-sniff
Greeks and Turks were arguing over various islands and airspace in the Aegean sea back when I deployed to the med in the 80’s, and I am sure a long time prior to that as well. This is the same old rivalry.
Rules are, you don’t change the title, no matter how much they need changing. hee hee hee
Sorry.
Both the F16’s and the F4’s were Turkish. The article does not identify what type of aircraft Greece sent up.
The question of the ages....
If Russia attacks Turkey from the rear, will Greece help?
“Who should we root for?”
Let’s see, an islamic nation bent on establishing a new caliphate and destruction of the West, or a western country of Christian heritage which is generally well disposed to the US.
It’s a tough call.
Well I hope that decision is not necessary.
But the way Erdogan is progressing, Turkey may actually be on the verge of expulsion from NATO.
Whenever NATO can figure out how to do that.
>>Both the F16s and the F4s were Turkish. The article does not identify what type of aircraft Greece sent up.<<
I guess reading IS FUNdamental!
Glossing just don’t get it done sometimes :)
Thanks!!
Probably F-16
Who prevailed in this non-dogfight?
Lousy, Lousy report.
Turkey is feeling spunky.
Somebody is going to get hurt before this ends.
If Greece doesn`t help, maybe some Kurds will.
Turkey is in the early stages of their next genocide. Problem is, the Kurds are armed and tough soldiers. Only way he took Afrin was because he has a modern air force. And that Russia allowed Turkey to use the airspace.
Outside that area? It will not play well.
Kurd soldiers are still killing 10-20 FSA and Turk soldiers per day. They have no intention of stopping that.
So, will the trigger level be hit? Where Kurds unite in all 4 regions and apply real pressure on Turkey?
Put a few stinger missiles in the mix and it gets interesting very fast.
