Attorney General Jeff Sessions designated U.S. attorney John Huber as the prosecutor tasked with looking into allegations of abuse of power at the FBI.
In a Thursday letter to Congress, Sessions said this appointment was made in response to requests for a special counsel investigation of the claims. The attorney general said, however, that Huber will be the one determining "whether any matters merit the appointment of a special counsel....In his letter, Sessions said he will take the necessary actions to defend the integrity of the Justice Department and its work.
"We understand that the Department is not above criticism and it can never be that the Department conceals errors when they occur," Sessions wrote.
The attorney general said he expects the department's staff to operate with the "highest level of integrity, ethic, and professionalism."
"If anyone falls short of these standards, I will fulfill my responsibility to take necessary action to protect the integrity of our work," he said.

“There are reasons why Trump hasn’t fired Sessions and it’s not because Sessions is doing a good job. “
remind us of what those greatest hits are... I think one of them is the make believe idea that a President can be impeached for firing a cabinet officer, because in fantasyland Myers v United States can be ignored.
Bunches of Cruzbots have shown up on this thread. Or, just a bunch of never-Trumpers.
Not saying I have a ton of faith in this process, but just the appointment alone by Obama could mean nothing if Huber was just routine step-up appointment suggested by Utah people, just becomes value-neutral as a clue. Real clues will be provided by end result of the process underway. At least they have somebody working on this which has to be better than nobody working on it. My optimism however is like a 2 on the 10-point scale. Hoping that one day it will be above a seven.
Cry havoc! And let slip the really lame and mothy taxidermy mounts...
No. He’s just a worthless faggot.
Yeah.
Mueller doesn’t plan. He indicts.
Like Rudy or Fatso, even, would have.
Sessions is the most worthless waste of good oxygen i’ve seen in a while.
A year lare there Jeffy boy
No confidence in ya Jeff ya weasel
yeah, we see a trend, we see the whole thing being turned over to someone who is subordinate to the crooks at the root of this briar patch. Jeff Sessions is either a ball-less wonder or he’s a swamp creature protecting his fellow creatures.
Seriously, all any states atty generals would have to do is open the book written by Peter Swhitzer...”Clinton Ca$h”. Go pull archives of Hannity and glean info from Sarah Carter and the other fella from The Hill who have laid out a splendid case of corruption against Clinton, Comey, McCabe, Huma, Weiner, Slick Willy, Podesta, Lynch, Page and the like.
Does he pay you to be his cheerleader?
I predict Trump fires Sessions tomottow.
How much would you like to wager?
_______________
I was embarrassed for Jarrett.
He looked like 'an incredibly thin lipped' cadaver last night. He was sickening, bitter ...... and wrong.
He, sadly, needs to go.
They just don’t get results.
FYI: Last night DOJ announced it was investigating Carter Page.
NOT as the fake news media put it, Page himself: Sessions is looking into the FBI’s HANDLING of the Carter Page investigation.
One more turn of the screw.
"Can" yes. "Should", no.
Do you understand the difference?
>
Sessions is doing exactly what an Attorney General is supposed to do - oversee the Department of Justice. Its not his role to handle individual prosecutions. Its his job to delegate that to his subordinates.
>
Ummm, he’s not even doing THAT.
As others have posted, there is KNOWN\definitive lawlessness, yet Magoo it now putting another layer to go LOOKING for law-breaking w/o handling those on the silver platter??
“This however sounds a little more like, having a plan to make a plan to make a plan.”
More like Fixin to get ready to have a plan to make a plan to make a plan.
Trump? LOL! JimRob put me in the "penalty box" before the convention -- because I was openly less than pro-Trump on FR! But -- I was 100% anti-HRC!!
No, I asked the same "support base" questions you did -- but, instead of sitting at my keyboard and grousing, I did my own investigation (in this case, of Trump's Davos trip).
Ask yourself: "Why would a billionaire -- ready to retire, play golf, and play with the grandkids and their gorgeous grandmother -- drop the reins to his empire, and, instead, (for no salary) take on all the headaches and risks of facing down the Deep State?
You, yourself see no visible support system; what could have convinced Trump --- who hates losing -- to take on a losing (and dangerous) proposition?
~~~~~~~~~~
How about being "drafted" by the sole, large remaining organization of Patriots -- with guarantees of not only protection (watch the Marines), but with a ready-to-execute plan and organization for taking out the Deep State?
Think for yourself. Instead of traveling with cabinet secretaries, why is Trump surrounded by guys with stars on their shoulders (even when they're "in mufti")?
Can you imagine this guy:
Like this?
I expended the effort to "do my homework" -- and corrected my position.
