Ban cars? Ban driverless cars? They have no constitutional rights, correct? Who has liability? Why did the car kill the human?!
But likely not the last...
Jay walking can be fatal
Ive seen them here (Pittsburgh) going the wrong way down a one way street more than once.
That will put a sock in the mouths of the idiot hipsters that promoted self-driving cares because human drives were all supposedly a bunch of idiots that couldn’t be trusted with private auto ownership.
Put that on his/ her tombstone. its like being the first person to have a heart transplant, or die in outer space
I still say one of the (largely) missed aspects of all of this is Insurance.
If I don’t design the car and I don’t drive the car — if the car has neither steering wheel nor brake pedals — then I don’t have to buy auto insurance. General Motors has to buy auto insurance. For millions of cars. And when accidents happen, the car company will be 100% to blame. Deep pockets. Lawyers will clean up on that.
Driverless cars are stupid. I don't want to look over and see one beside me. It's insane? Take a damn bus.
>>Why did the car kill the human?
Don’t know but SUVs apparently like to kill humans
UBER and all others need to be fully liable for all accidents of any kind with any of this driverless initiative.
My bet is that the car followed the traffic laws and this woman was jay walking or walking against the light.
The video here says it was somebody on a bicycle.
The Verge reports: "The crash occurred near Mill Avenue and Curry Road early Monday morning in Tempe, Arizona, the channel reports. The Uber vehicle was reportedly headed northbound when a woman walking outside of the crosswalk was struck. The woman was taken to the hospital where she later died from her injuries. Early reports suggested that she may have been a bicyclist, but that may not be the case."

Why did the car kill the pedestrian?
Because it could.
**************************************************************
Why was the pedestrian crossing the road?
To play uber chicken.
My Mother The Car is a murderer?
The current system is insane enough where cars with drivers are zipping past each other in the same and opposite directions, often on narrow two-lane highways, at high speeds. To entrust so-called self-driving cars controlled by computers which were programmed by mere humans is beyond insane.
Tempe police say the self-driving Uber was in autonomous mode at the time of the collision and there was a vehicle operator behind the wheel.
Well, that is asinine that someone had to die while there was a human being there to catch the Uber mistake...
What isn’t reported but what I’m curious about is
what did the car do next? Did it stop at the scene
of the accident? Did it even know it hit something?
Did it keep on going (hit and run)?
Maybe someone will point out that a computer program cannot possibly have the same ability to perceive and judge as a human. Yes, humans are fallible and cause accidents all the time but can distinguish between a human and a shadow. A computer program does not perceive. It calculates. Human perception is superior to that of a computer program with a camera lens.
