Uber is temporarily halting self-driving car tests in all locations after a deadly accident.

Programs in San Francisco, Pittsburgh, Phoenix and Toronto will be paused after a woman was hit and killed overnight by an Uber self-driving car when walking across the street in Tempe, Arizona. It is likely the first pedestrian fatality caused by a self-driving car.

“WHY the huge push for driver less cars? Can someone explain this to me?
They can shove up their rear end! I’d never have one!”

It’s insanity. Can’t explain it anymore than I can explain global warming, gun control, fruit marriage, men in the ladies’ room or any other democrat fad du jour.

As I have been predicting for some time now, self-driving cars will not survive First Contact with the American Tort Bar.

Okay, 37,461 out of 263.6 million cars. That is one death per 7,037 cars. And driverless cars? There are 53 cities doing some level of testing. Say there are even 10x cars in each, that is 530 cars, that is 1 death per 530 cars. And I bet there are only a fraction of that number of driverless cars around. Tell me again which is safer?

Some like Uber see money in the form of taxis without having the pay the driver. The real push however is from the communist left. They see what is the ultimate in CONTROL of the masses. Driverless cars are as important to the left as gun control. We should resist at every level. This concept is born of evil pure and simple. Freedom to move about the country of our own free will is part of the bedrock of our society. If the commies get control of your car they WILL control your entire life.

For the fan boys of this insanity you need to know this one simple fact.

There will NEVER be a driverless car. Someone will always be driving it. It just won't be YOU!

The answer from the Left will be to mandate GPS chips implanted in all humans so the robot cars will know you’re there and not hit you. Once the chips are inserted, other important data will be included such as your bank balances, whether you own guns, etc.

So far no indication of fault, nor that a human driver could have avoided the accident.
Will they test the fuel alcohol content to determine if drunk driving was a factor?

Kids in the car? I worry more about a terrorist loading up a car with explosives and sending it on the way to a courthouse, school, or shopping center. If killing a pedestrian doesn’t stop driverless cars, what about the first terrorist attack?

Nope...that would be logical. No way a car and parts manufacturer will be liable for the inevitable deaths that will occur from driverless cars. The question is liability...which will be the owner regardless if he/she is in control of the car or not. My question is...will the insurance companies write paper on a car not being controlled by its owner? Or...will a buyer of the car cede his rights of incrimination to a machine? I know I wouldn’t!

Yeah, but you can’t stop 263.6 million cars when one driver has a flaw, while you figure out how to prevent that flaw from occurring again. You can with the driverless cars, and they will get better and safer until they far surpass people.

Christine!

"Feed us, humans, for we are hungry."

I was thinking more along the lines of Steven King's "Maximum Overdrive," where the vehicles take over.

“That will put a sock in the mouths of the idiot hipsters that promoted self-driving cares because human drives were all supposedly a bunch of idiots that couldn’t be trusted with private auto ownership.”

Dude, there was a human ‘at the wheel’!

And just who was killed? A white person or an illegal alien sneaking around in the early morning? Was the car racist? Did it not see them because of the color of their skin (recall that the newest Apple iPhone technology reportedly cannot distinguish people of color).

What will the SJW say?

“They can shove up their rear end! I’d never have one!”

Then you can just sit on your a$$ when you are too old or unable to drive!

The car is a symbol and expression of American freedom, the modern day version of the horse if you will. Used to be that a horse thief was about as low as you could go and were routinely and unceremoniously hung. I propose the same for the driverless advocates,

When the idea of driverless cars first came out I remember reading an article about how parents could just put their kids in the car and wave them off as the car drove them to school. I thought at the time - what if some pedo commandeered the car on the way to school seeing as how no mom or dad was in the car to protect them?

Whatever can be imagined someone will do to driverless cars. These cars are as stupid as all the bikes we are seeing in major cities.

Probably should be on a per mile driven basis, but Moore’s law means it will halved in roughly every 1-2 years, and human driver’s won’t have similar drops. The replacement of human drivers will be in stages, like more automatic features such as emergency collision breaking already found in cars. Young humans are so addicted and instant gratfication they text and drive. And they can be the worst drivers in our history...good luck insuring them.

Well not really...the number one rule is that pedestrians have the right of way...if the car is not programmed to avoid people, even when they are not supposed to be there, the car and its operator are liable.
