Uber is temporarily halting self-driving car tests in all locations after a deadly accident.
Programs in San Francisco, Pittsburgh, Phoenix and Toronto will be paused after a woman was hit and killed overnight by an Uber self-driving car when walking across the street in Tempe, Arizona. It is likely the first pedestrian fatality caused by a self-driving car.

Imagine all our cars being ye old poop makers.
Now imagine the fuel for our present day cars being cabbage juice.
Because to the urban hipster, driving is a chore, not the ticket to freedom that it is to the rest of us. All the better to be delegated to the electronic nannies, so they can focus on the important things in life, like Facebook & Twitter...
Isn’t it faulty logic to assume that the other party doesn’t have to obey traffic laws when an autonomous vehicle is involved?
Would be good to determine the murder motive. I’m sure it’s there, just not identified yet.
Did the car have any connections to the deceased?
Yeah. You should probably get killed for that.
CONTROL !
OBEY !
The car had a backup driver in it. If he wasn't paying attention to the road I think he would be subject to any distracted driving laws. There were at least 2 failures in the accident. The failure of the car to detect the woman and the failure of the backup driver to see her.
“WHY the huge push for driver less cars? Can someone explain this to me?
They can shove up their rear end! Id never have one!”
It’s insanity. Can’t explain it anymore than I can explain global warming, gun control, fruit marriage, men in the ladies’ room or any other democrat fad du jour.

Living creatures make millions of little adjustments while going through life.
Machines operate according to their internal programming.
Good. People like to drive their own car anyway. Really dumb idea.
“UBER and all others need to be fully liable for all accidents of any kind with any of this driverless initiative.”
The filthy politicians who allow it should be jailed.
I worry about the H1B and Indian developers writing the logic. Have you ever been to India? I have. The roads are absolute chaos. On road to Delhi, I saw every mode of transportation you could imagine, even elephants, and everything overloaded and weaving in and out amongst each other, horns blaring. There were accidents and dead people, too. So much filth and over population that they didn’t care. Is this the mindset that programs these killer cars?
“. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) 2016 data shows 37,461 people were killed in 34,436 motor vehicle crashes, an average of 102 per day.[1]”
“Idiots” that can’t be trusted driving cars: 37,461
Self Driving cars: 1
In fairnewss the Self Driving car stat is for 3 months. The 37,461 is for a full year.
Here’s your sock back
I hope that car was put down like a rabid dog.
Or when a ball rolls across the street it is more than likely followed by some kid
"Buh-Bye! Now don't punch your sister of any buttons on the front panel. Kiss-kiss. Love you!"
You may not have a choice. Driving is
a privilege, not a right. It may take
20-30 years, but cars that require an
operator may be slowly phased out,
and driverless cars will be the norm.
Those that support driverless cars
are the ones who passenger in a carpool
and like to nap on the way to work, or
just aren’t comfortable driving. (high
anxiety types), poor(can’t afford
insurance), another Freeper brought
this one up.
The takeover could drive the market
up for cars that need an operator after
time as they become more and more scarce.
Keep what you have, and take care of it.
Of course, all said here is just my
humble opinion.
There is certainly a danger involved for the driverless car experimenters.
However, great leeway should be granted to the injured. Not only should they get any benefit of the doubt, but they should be allowed to assume that the driverless car did not have the “sense” to preemptively avoid a problem.
Commercial transportation companies want the technology so they don't have to pay drivers. DOT agencies want it to increase traffic flow without having to widen roads in big metro areas.
