When news of the Parkland school shooting first broke, it resonated with 17-year-old Naomi Giancola.
A junior at Midwood High School in Brooklyn, New York some 1,200 miles away from Marjory Stoneman Douglas, the Florida high school where a gunman murdered 17 students and faculty on Feb. 14 Giancola immediately thought the tragedy could have easily happened at her own school.
It really hit home because Im in high school. That could have been my school, that could have been my friends, that could have been me that was shot or running away, Giancola told Fox News.
So along with 16-year-old Madeline Paterna, Giancola arranged for her school to participate in the National School Walkout, a protest led by students demanding action against gun violence, on March 14 one month after the Parkland school shooting.
It was really scary to think that could have been us, and I just wanted to do something because I dont want it to happen again," Giancola said.

I took my wife to the gun store today and made another purchase. Bought the new Ruger breakdown 9mm carbine for her. Next month it’s another AR-10 for me. We enjoy supporting the local economy.
This is very dangerous s**t, make no mistake.
And any student who walks out of class should be expelled from school.
Between this and the proliferation of threats, real or fraudelent, kids may never go to school again.
If it’s really only 17 minutes and has a remembrance tone rather than political I don’t see the big deal. Similar to time off to go to a funeral. But if they come out with left-funded anti-NRA signs and it drags on well that’s entirely different.
“National School Walkout planned by students worldwide after Parkland shooting”
2. Life is tough. Going through life stupid is tougher. Maybe these already ill-educated, immature, Tide-Pod eating jackholes ought to stay in school and attempt to learn something, rather than going out to protest the mindless cause of the week.
I’d suggest some history, starting with the Federalist Papers #46, by James Madison, and then a thorough study of the genocides perpetrated by governments in the 20th Century (starting with the Turks against the Armenians, through the German/Nazi genocide, the Soviet Holodomor, the
I heartily disagree.
Those ‘17 minutes’ are yet another camel’s nose inside an already tattered tent.
If the little lambs feel that strongly about it, they can ask for permission to hold their ‘rememberance’ on school grounds AFTER classes.
And a funeral is an entirely different (and legitimate) matter.
While I’m for the death penalty, I hope they got the right guy and that he wasn’t set up.
Wait a minute. Is it national or world wide?
The world doesn’t have a 2nd Amendment.
No matter, the Open Society, Annenberg and Ford Foundations are organizing and paying for this.
So much for a kiddy grassroots uprising.

Rumor has it that one school district here in CNY told their kids that if they walked out, they were getting suspended.
I tried but could not confirm that. I don’t know anyone in that district myself. I heard it from an acquaintance.
It's good to know there's some sanity in this country yet.
national walkout...worldwide? Worldwide? Really?
What other country is there going to be a walk out in?
Hyperbole...it’s the best thing ever!!!
What absolute lunacy.
Every kid that walks out gets held back
1 year....no graduation for seniors.
Suspend any teacher that supports the
walkout.
Our tax dollars pay for these
schools. We should have a say in it.
It had the name of a school on the side.
In our school system the second question would be,who’s buried in Grants tomb?
And how many causes can these students think up as an excuse to walk out of school? Will the lefty teachers and administrators allow students to walk out for a pro-2nd Amendment demonstration? How about anti-abortion? This is so much propaganda and these airhead kids are being used by leftist groups.
I assume there is a Factory in China turning out thousands of Brown Shirts for the upcoming Anti Constitution Rally.
