President Trump on Wednesday voiced support for confiscating guns from certain individuals deemed to be dangerous, even if it violates due process rights.
I like taking the guns early, like in this crazy mans case that just took place in Florida ... to go to court would have taken a long time, Trump said at a meeting with lawmakers on school safety and gun violence.
Take the guns first, go through due process second, Trump said.

You're not a fool, there were two viable candidates, imo you chose the best. I can't stand the guys personality or lifestyle, but I mostly like the things he does, and proposes. Which is more important. This issue aside for now, personally I doubt he thought out what he said, any more than he's thought out his ongoing mental health statements.
Where did you get that I for from ?
I need it with the constant gun debate I have with my boss
They have a law in Florida they could have used to seize his firearms temporarily until they could determine he was indeed a fruitcake.
Who cares if they already have a law. Make a new law that is the same as the old law. You are doing something. And if they point that out then you can make it a crime to not follow up on laws. Just don’t do nothing. Pass a law that sounds and is reasonable. It will inoculate Trump from signing any further laws.
The people that used to be committed to mental institutions is what I am talking about, needs to be very well defined and subject to 2 or 3 party review.
PTSD, alcoholism, etc. are way different that that.
Even now, the VA seeks to disarm vets:
“The VA, in making the determination that a veteran requires a fiduciary to help them manage their money, is additionally making the decision that the veteran therefore cannot handle a firearm.”
Here is what you do to deprive some one of constitutional rights. You arrest them and jail them for a violation of the law. I don’t see cruz violating any law what so ever until he walked into that school and stated shooting. He was not under a restraining order. We dont put people in jail for being treated on mental issues the last time I checked. There was no criminal complaint. We don’t take your rights away because some one sees something ILLEGAL and calls the cops.
The denial of civil rights in this country takes a judicial determination FIRST not after the deprivation in criminal matters unless there is probable cause and fear of attack on a police officer. There is civil commitment but both require notice , hearing trial by jury unless waived. Both require right to counsel and free counsel if you are indigent. This is 8th grade civics basic stuff people. And you better be damned glad these protections exist. We don’t let some liberal shrink act as judge jury and executioner under our constitution by putting you on a list. We never have and we never will. This bastard should have been shot to death by an armed and trained teacher instead of walking around in a gun free zone. Trump got that dead right
Every state has laws concerning that. If no one, law enforcement, school administration, or the medical community initiates, nothing happens. I'd include family, but that didn't seem to be a big issue here.
With a deadly weapon, likely a felony charge. Gosh, no guns legally forever. Once he gets out.
Same here. I am watching Trump like a hawk right now. The SECOND his pen goes to sign ANY gun ban, I'm done, and I will actively campaign against him in 2020. Even now, he's losing my support.
If he does sign the Demonrats' total gun ban, there may not even BE a 2020 election, because of all the death. Civil war.
So under no circumstances should Cruz had his guns taken?
What if your kid was dead?
Seems DJT is reliving his Democratic Party affiliation.
I meant Where did you get that INFO from ?
Damn IPad
Maybe when someone is accused of “colluding with Russians” they should be removed from office and get due process later.
Why would it take a long time to get it through a court order if the guy is a threat?
truly our federal government is out of control
(has been for a long time before DJT, we were just hoping he would repair things.. drain the swamp...but ... the swamp has captured him it seems)
Did you know that we don’t just “deem” you crazy under our constitution. You get DUE PROCESS. Let me tell you what that actually is. You get notice of the charge against you and the penalty or intended deprivation of rights intended. You get an attorney . You get a trial by jury unless you waive it. You get to defend yourself by presenting your witnesses and cross examining theirs. We don’t DEEM people crazy and take their rights or their property. Have we lost our minds?
Marking this for later comment.
Trump has been somewhat frustrating. Too often he has violated the decorum of the office and even, occasionally, good taste. But for all those faults, for more than a year Trump has consistently, more so than ANY President since Reagan, delivered on the best interests of this country and its people. And I had come to find that Trump was indeed earning my confidence and, yes, trust.
With this statement, he lost it.
We are a nation of laws, not men. We follow the Constitution, not current fads. Does Trump understand that?
We elected you hoping you would restore the rule of law not erode it further, Mr. President.
There is a process that will accomplish the idea that Trump puts forward ... a TRO. It’s an ex parte filing before a judge requesting the emergency holding of the weapons with a follow up hearing where the defendant has his due process rights continued. Thus it would all be due process.
