JUST IN: Broward Sheriff says armed school resource deputy who was on duty at Stoneman Douglas the day of the shooting has been suspended without pay pending investigation; Sheriff Israel says the deputy opted to resign/retire.

Mrs. abb’s perfect recipe.
In a 40 oz blender:
6 oz tequila - Torada Gold
3 oz triple sec
3 oz sweet n’ sour mix
6 oz limeade
Fill blender with ice cubes, then blend to slurry.
That depends on his job description. Is he required to protect the student body or the school property?
Never send a liberal to do a conservative’s job?
I shot the sheriff, but no one shot the deputy./S
Hmmmn.

Previous jobs were at ??? and was released for ??? reasons?
We don’t know enough to condemn - Well, yes we do.
The coach and teach got to the scenes INSIDE with enough time to try to shield the kids. They should have attacked the killer, but at least they tried.
This guy? What was he going to do? Point and click when/if the kid tried to leave the building?
Cowardice under fire?
BSO has been a bad joke for years. Lots of featherbedding among the airport detail and the courtroom bailiffs, or as they insist on being called, “court deputies.”
I have to think that Guys/Gals w/Guns Would have acted differently!
And US Marines...? Nuff said!
Semper Get The Basturd!

Funny you put it that way. I (civilian) just spoke to my son (former combat soldier Iraq /Afghanistan ) and he said, "Ma, he wasn't mentally ready for it, few are...". So he cut the deputy more slack than I did, and he knows about armed combat- I don't. He did add "he shouldnt be a cop, though, not in these times"...
>>Thats the issue. Since suspension and resignation were options, I have a feeling he wasnt doing his job. But if he were just in another section of the school grounds doing his job, then theres no liability, and no suspension or resignation would be considered.<<
I have been reading some reports that he was right outside the building.
This reminds me of the Zimmerman incident — better to wait for the full, factual report.
If it is ever forthcoming as his retirement might end the whole shebang.
Of course you know the outcome of someone taking a pistol to a rifle fight.
The system failed multiple times at multiple levels.
The system—Not the law.
Meanwhile, the Pubbies appear to be on the verge of committing electoral harakiri, led by no less a personage than President Donald “Comprehensive Background Checks” Trump.
At the FBI level all people with any responsibility for “ the breakdown in procedures” needs to be fired immediately and the relevant supervisory personnel up to and including Director Wray should be required to draft and submit provisional letters of resignation pending Inspector General investigation to recommend whether or not the resignations should be accepted.
It's doubtful that many of the resignations would warrant action but nothing gets a government officials attention quite like being forced to submit a resignation on the grounds of gross negligence.
Sheriff Israel should have resigned days ago and the fact that he has not resigned proves beyond a shadow of doubt that he is the wrong man for the job.
Sheriff Israel and anyone even the most remote responsibility or involvement with this affair should be fired for gross negligence and potentially prosecuted if investigation demonstrates prosecution is warranted
The school board and politicians that enacted the rules that enabled this disaster should resign or be removed from office if they don't do the right thing.
Same for the school administration
New leadership needs to repeal the diversionary program and other policies that allowed this situation to happen
Once new leadership is in place and the disastrous policies and laws that enabled this horror are repealed we can focus on how to improve the system to secure our schools and prevent another tragedy
There is no way we can move forward to secure our schools until the feckless, negligent and incompetent leadership has been made an example of, removed from their job responsibilities and new competent, engaged and responsible leaders are in place to implement rational and common sense policies to replace the insane rules and procedures the old leadership promoted
No wonder the sheriff was such an anti-gun a-hole at the CNN town hall last night. He was deflecting from this.
Somebody needs to put a name on him. He should have to look over his shoulder for the rest of his life.
Unfortunately this takes a lot of the steam out of the argument for armed security.
I have a friend who was an SRO. It was a desirable job for several reasons, including Monday-Friday 7am-4pm schedule, Detective pay without the Detective work and stress, drive home marked car, independent work with very little supervision, overtime for extra-curricular events if desired, etc. It was a cushy job but you have to be ready to act when needed.
(If he wasn't there, why wasn't he there?)
His name is in the article on The Hill.
“Right you are and it will cost the State of Florida taxpayers a hundred million dollars”
Can we make that BROWARD COUNTY taxpayers???
Thanks.
Sounds like he was taking a nap in his car in the most obscure parking lot.
