Romney Is a Misfit for America
National Review ^ | February 19, 2018 | Michael Brendan Dougherty

Posted on 02/20/2018 5:02:05 AM PST by C19fan

Mitt’s back. The former governor of Massachusetts and occasional native son of Michigan has a new persona: Mr. Utah. He’s going to bring Utah conservatism to the whole Republican party and to the country at large. Wholesome, efficient, industrious, faithful. “Utah has a lot to teach the politicians in Washington,” he says in announcing his Senate campaign. Maybe.

The best that can be said is Mitt Romney is not a Democrat.

Got any proof?

The only agenda he serves is his own.

That means, ultimately, that he's totally unreliable.

He thinks he’s the next McVain. Hope he comes to a similar end. Espeially when I’m reminded of this:

It’s starting to work already.

Trump endorses Romney, now the press is going after Romney.

Winning.

That means he's (Romney) totally unreliable

I'm disgusted with him and how he came to OH last minute before the primary to boost Kasick's chances. There's no question Romney is part of the Jeb/Kasick shenanigans to force-feed us their nomination. But we do have to begrudgingly accept Romney. Any democrat wouldn't be unreliable; they'd vote in lock-step against our agenda.

You do plenty of backbiting when it suits you so what’s this “we” business? What you’re saying is shut up and vote Republican no matter who or what they throw at us. We crossed that bar during the GW Bush administration. Where has it gotten us? Window dressing on social issues and kicking the can down the road, and slightly slower on the road to socialist serfdom. No thanks. You go be a party apparatchik all you want, just don’t think you’re entitled to browbeat anyone else into tagging along with you.

Trump has endorsed Mitt McCain s a smart political move. Mitt McCain will be elected anyway so why start out with antagonism? If Trump was to get involved in Mormonville he might end up stopping Mitt McCain and getting us that asshole McMuffin.

No, what I’m saying is the Realpolitgic reality that winning the primary means nothing. We have an all too strong recent history of nominating candidates we loved, who everyone knew would lose the general election, as opposed to nominating a candidate who might be a bit less conservative, but would win the general.

The result of that is there are now at least 3 Dem votes in the Senate that would have been voting our way if we had not nominated a candidate who could not win the general.

We can have anything we want. We cannot have everything we want.

Rule #4 for Conservatives: Work hard to nominate the most Conservative candidate in the Primary, when we know that candidate will win the General.

Wish we could find a more principled candidate who was electable, but he’d be a whole lot better than any Democrat.

Enh. The South has produced plenty of actual nobility, descended from titled English gentry, such as the Lees and Johnstons. We could stand one from Utah, provided he doesn’t push it. But acting aristocratic is the least of Romney’s problems. It’s mostly that big old horn sticking out of his nose. Utah wants their pet RINO. Let them have their pet RINO. And as Mormons do, let him take a second wife, fellow RINO Susan Collins.

I don’t live or vote in Utah, so I have no say in the matter, any more than I do about Arizona’s choices of McCain and Flake. But the cause of conservatism is harmed when people like Romney, McCain and Flake are voted to office over real conservatives - maybe not as much as it would be if Utah and Arizona were voting Democrats in, but voting in people who say they are conservative but would be perfectly at home in the Democratic Party of 1996 is one big reason why conservatives have been disappointed and betrayed repeatedly by their elected representatives.

He’s playing the American public for suckers: He gets a free ride to the White House and all we get is a lousy hat. OK then he was good for something

I was told, there are two Conservative types out there. Maybe they have a shot actually. It can be a long campaign season. Also, I’ll take what National (NRO) Review says with a grain of salt.

Maybe some Utah freeper should keep us posted. If there is a primary opponent we could help promote.
