University of Miami basketball coach Jim Larranaga took the opportunity after Saturday's 62-55 loss to Syracuse to let the world know his views on gun control in the wake of the Stoneman Douglas High massacre.
"I think we have to do something about our gun laws," Larranaga said. "We're not the Wild, Wild West where everybody should carry a gun. There needs to be accountability and responsibility for people in charge of selling guns and buying guns."

The coach is undoubtedly talking about Chicago not getting the guns of the street and the loss of potential basketball players.
Agreed. It’s ridiculous that the schools aren’t secured.
In most towns, when people from the outside came in, they needed to surrender their firearms. It was not a big deal. EVERYONE did it.
Hardly anyone “wore” a firearm unless they were out on the farm or range. And then it was more to kill snakes, wolves, and coyotes.
The people who think the wild west is “cool” would be the same people who think “gang violence” is cool today.
A little bit of reading kills a whole lot of hollywood.
Sounds like Australia is just the place for this coach.
Exactly what should a new law do? Ban AR15s? Ban Ruger .22s? Ban Glocks? Ban every gun that will fire more than one round without reloading?
This dumb coach has a college degree and has no idea why the Founding Fathers made gun ownership a right. No, this isn’t the wild west. But the government is more powerful and dictatorial than ever.
The funny thing is this is what people like him do not understand or seem not to comprehend, WE ALREADY HAVE GUN LAWS, hundreds of them of them if im correct, we even have laws on people owning weapons if they are convicted of domestic battery, and background checks, and guess what, it does not stop violence fully, deter yes, but it will never stop it and more will not help.
I swear the logic in this country is failing.
Tell your own people to stop having firearms, Larranaga. Your neighborhood should keep its problems to itself and find solutions for itself instead of complaining about Americans.
Do something about the kids who don’t have a set of values that keeps them from murdering innocents.
Because *they* want to kill us.
Varnish the gun-grabbers any way you like, but that is their ultimate goal.
A review of history proves me correct.
Yes, do something about our gun laws - enforce the ones we have.
Hey coach... Go talk to Chicago. They seem to have it under control.
/s
Hey coach - new laws stop people who intend to break laws how?
Coach, also remind me how laws against murder, rape, assault, DWI, speeding, jaywalking, etc. have stopped the badguys from doing so.
Surrendering in town was a good idea, but the towns were small, and everyone knew everyone.
Drinking in the saloons and brothels, combined with the ready availability of a gun, was not a good mix. Even if it was just reveling and celebrating, someone could get hurt.
But, back to the original question, no one wants the “wild west” back again, but we do maintain our right to protect ourselves and our families from harm.
The idiocy of these emotion people that keep saying we need to make laws seem to have a crystal ball for law making.
Just what laws do they think will stop the nutcases.
If laws were the answer then there wouldn’t be any drug problem, no speeders, drunk drivers or anything else that laws have been enacted to prevent.
The laws are already there and the people that are supposed to enforce them are too busy to bother.
I swear the logic in this country is failing.
Logic should be a required course in every HIGH SCHOOL.
How about this for a change in gun laws. If you are a registered Democrat you may not own guns.
There, now do you feel safer?
You aren’t paid to lecture us “coach”.
We don’t need your advice nor care for it.
Good going, coach. Now watch as the trustees and fans show their disdain for your lack of restraint. Do your job and shut your pie hole.
History, hell. Every once in a while, you can get the libtards to just come out and say it.
He is absolutely correct. We MUST do something about our gun laws, especially those laws that prevent the protection of innocent children by homicidal maniacs.
