How often, historically, have pigs actually been thrown into battle? Is this a common occurrence?

The crisis came on June 15, 1859, when Lyman Cutlar, an American, shot and killed a company pig rooting in his garden.

battle-pig

A large (fat or manly) female that mingles with a group of incredibly attractive women in night clubs. The battle pig will scare away men attempting to interact with the attractive females. The only way to bypass the battle-pig is for a self-sacrificing man to offer himself to the battle pig so that his friends may get close to the attractive females.

Dude, I can’t get with that chick with the battle-pig in the way.

What she is referring to is, in the Middle Ages, dead animals were often used in sieges, being allowed to ripen in the sun a few days before being catapulted over the castle walls to splat all inside the enemy stronghold..................

Well, the M-60 was known as "the pig".

And after the sappers had done their job of tunneling under the walls they used to shove dead pigs in the tunnel and light them on fire. The heat would cause the walls to crack and sometimes collapse entirely.

Aside from that I got nothing.

The Hatfield-McCoy feud was according to some accounts about a pig but I would not call what they did "battle".

From the TV show "Archer":

Archer: "Cry havoc, and let slip the hogs of war!"
Lana: "Dogs of war."
Archer: "Whatever farmyard animal of war, Lana!!!"
