‘I’m All For It’: DACA Immigrants Suddenly Changing Their Tune On Trump And The Border Wall

Many of the so-called Dreamers worried about their immigration status are starting to reconsider their opposition to a possible wall at the U.S.-Mexico border, according to a report Friday from the San Francisco Chronicle.

President Donald Trump’s wall at the border wouldn’t be so bad, some groups are now saying, so long as it means citizenship for the nearly 700,000 people brought into the country through the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

“If building a wall leads us to having citizenship, then I’m all for it,” Ana Rodriguez, who works at a daycare center in California, told reporters at the Chronicle. “The U.S. is what I know and that’s where I want to live my life — I want to be a part of it in full.”

Rodriguez and others like her are arguing about accepting a trade-off — giving Trump his wall in exchange for retaining DACA. The Trump administration proposed a bill earlier this month offering citizenship to 1.8 million illegal immigrants in exchange for $25 billion for a border wall.

Activist organizations have also noted that DACA recipients are making recalculations about their opposition. Marissa Montes, co-director of the Loyola Immigrant Justice Clinic in Los Angeles, noticed in recent weeks that they are sounding more and more likely to back a wall in exchange for citizenship.

“It’s coming from a point of exhaustion — they’ve tried everything,” Montes told reporters. “Their instinct is survival and as human beings, how much longer can they endure this? They’re ping-ponging back and forth.”

(snip)

Recent polling shows Hispanics are evenly split on whether to combine a DACA deal to the building of a wall — 42 percent of Hispanics oppose it and 42 percent support it, according to the Quinnipiac poll conducted Jan. 18.

LOL - she's all for the wall because she wants to be ON THIS SIDE OF THE WALL. If she's willing to accept that it does NOT include any of her relatives - AND that the process will take ten to twelve years for full (voting) citizenship - then I'm OK with this. President Trump will work out the deal... but I see hope. AND an END to the insanity of being flooded with illegals. BUILT THE WALL... make the country safe.

So ...what is planned for the illegal alien parents ???

The parents who brought the 'kids' here MUST be deported.

IF DACE kids can't figure out a way to 'visit' them in Mexico they can just go live there with their parents.

We can work out a way for dacas to live here but without any relatives hanging on them. NO MORE RELATIVES. NONE. ZERO CHAIN MIGRATION.

TEN TO TWELVE YEARS FOR DACAS TO HAVE FULL CITIZENSHIP ...PARENTS GO HOME. No relatives. Trump will work out a deal, get us a wall, beef up ICE, and make the country safe again.

You are near the requirements: my dear friend from Poland, who married her husband in Poland, who is an American.

Having lived in Great Britain for him to finish a degree at Oxford, then living and working in Belgium for a few years, returned to the U.S. and living in Atlanta, GA.

It was then that they began the process of my friend becoming a citizen, which I am told took hundreds of dollars and 7-10 years!

This woman, being born, reared and college educated in Poland, married an American, living first in Europe, then in America, living and working as a Pastor.

No sneaking into this country, working with stolen IDs and getting welfare, food stamps, housing and medical, then demanding legalization, citizenship, and voting for them.

No jumping ahead of others, who also are following the rules, no.

They waited, scraped enough money together, soon parents of two pre-schoolers and waited for over 7 years for a Polish born, college-educated woman who is delighted to finally become an American citizen!

Nope again the green card AKA Alien Registration Card is the “pathway to citizenship”

At the top right hand corner of my naturalization document is written Alien Registration No. ——— that number is from my green card which I had to surrender ... that number follows the IMMIGRANT from the time they first arrive in this country...

only those eligible to be naturalized as citizens get them...

anyone with a green card has already been accepted as a future American citizen...ALL the vetting done back in their own country...

a green card says the person did it the right way...applied for IMMIGRATION in their own country...was proven to be medically fit and free from disease, got the required shots paid the required sees, had clean background checks and criminal record checks and had a good employment record in their own country and swear not to even apply for welfare/food stamps, nor vote and agree that they will be deported for crimes committed in the US...illegal aliens fail in the crime part and probably the employment part also and probably diseases ...

when an IMMIGRANT earns a green card...now all that is needed is time in America for citizenship which starts the day they arrive here...

meaning an illegal alien who has been here for more than 5 years is eligible today to be naturalized...

so a green card wont work...that’s for IMMIGRANTS

other than deportation there is no solution that wouldn’t be unfair to IMMIGRANTS and to American citizens...

all these illegal aliens must go back home and apply to come here the right way...

If they were under age when they come the first time and haven’t committed further crimes they could be eligible to get in line in their own countries and IMMIGRATE ...

The crazy mindset of thinking they are entitled or deserving of some grand reward for breaking our laws disqualifies them from being fit to be IMMIGHRANTS and American citizens...

America First ...

“Offer them retention without citizenship.”

No retention. No citizenship - ever. Offer them this:

Free ride in a Greyhound down to the border.
Tell them how to get to the end of the line.
Provide them with a digital audio device pre-loaded with files to listen to while waiting to re-enter:
- Berlitz English lessons.
- The U.S. Constitution.
- Entire series of “Rush Revere” by Limbaugh.
When their turn comes to re-enter America:
- Give them an English exam with both written and verbal sections.
- Make them burn a Mexican flag.
- Make them give contact information for their U.S. sponsor and/or employer.
- Implant a GPS tracking device to be removed in five years if they never commit a crime or accept welfare during that time.

That’ll do it.

“If building a wall leads us to having citizenship, then I’m all for it,” Ana Rodriguez...

SLAP!!

Humph! Just what do you think I am??

You've already shown that; now we are merely haggling over the price.

Agreed. He’s changing the narrative.

Most DACA people probably should be allowed to stay, and Obama could certainly have gotten that legislation through - except he never did anything through legislation, but simply wanted to do destructive EOs because he and the Dems were incapable of working with the legislature on anything.

And most of the DACA people don’t want unlimited immigration from anywhere, including their countries of origin, because by now they consider themselves Americans.

I think they should all have to go through US Civ classes (because they’ve been brought up in the US public school system, which is anti-AMerican) and should be vetted (no criminal record) and have to have a waiting period

"The only thing that stops illegals is a wall and border security. That’s it. AGREE. To this I add, E-Verify mandatory for every hiring action in every industry. Major financial or criminal penalties to business owner or person in charge for failure to confirm legality. Anyone using a stolen SS# is a criminal and should be deported. Better biometric visa tracking for overstays. Mandatory English for education and government business, including voting.
