LOS ANGELES Family members are worried about the possible deportation of a 30-year-old father of two who was recently detained by ICE after living in the U.S. since being brought here when he was a toddler.
"ICE is abusing their power. They're doing this all across the nation," Roman Maury said outside a court hearing for Torres on Thursday. " He wasn't doing anything wrong. ... He was dropping his kids off at school."
ICE spokeswoman Lori Haley said Torres was targeted for arrest by deportation officers with ICE's Los Angeles-based fugitive operations team. All ICE arrests are "targeted" and never "random," Haley said.
Haley said in the ICE statement that Torres' criminal history includes DUI and felony narcotics possession.
But Roman Maury said Torres has "a few misdemeanors" and no felony record.
Advocates for Torres say he poses no threat or harm to the community, and Roman Maury said her client has learned from past criminal convictions, which she painted as mistakes of youth.
Torres is the father of a 3- and 7-year-old, and has been living in the U.S. since he was brought here by his grandmother. He hardly speaks any Spanish and has no family in Mexico, Arellano said. He works as a manager at a solar panel company in Chatsworth and is a youth football coach.

He knew he was here illegally... did he make any effort to remedy that?
This fellow knows the facts of life.
The new advertising slogan:
Got “Real” Legal Papers?
A youth football coach with a narcotics possession bust? Yeah, he needs to go. He’s probably selling drugs to the kids.
This is an irrelevant, emotion-seeking clickbait title.
This man is an illegal alien who has compounded that crime with further crimes. Make an example of him and send him back wherever he came from.
STOMP OUT MSM EMOTION-BASED HEADLINES
So he’s been here 28 years and hasn’t started any process to
become a US citizen. Doesn’t sound like he cares very much.
Looks like the team is gonna need a new coach.
Hey anybody need a job in the solar industry?
Maybe it’s time to make a career change.
The company could hire a young person, give them training, and make a good mechanic out of them. MAGA
“He wasn’t doing anything wrong....” Yes he was. He was here illegally. Why does the length of time make any difference? If you got busted for a moonshining could you get off because you’ve been doing it for 30 years?
I am no fan of tinhorn police and Bill of Rights mockeries like DUI checkpoints but if ICEs remit is to track down illegals then this is hardly an abuse of power.
How does ICE know he is here illegally unless he had come in contact with law enforcement at some point in his life.
So I think the secret of avoiding deportation is don’t commit any crimes.
No, they're doing their job again.
Of course he did not remedy that. He should have been deported after his felony conviction.
On good thing about a draft was birth status was determined. Today people just float along till arrest.
Blame someone? Blame those that brought you illegally into the country.
I’ve little interest in their sob stories, and I seethe at their sense of entitlement. I regard illegal border jumpers, visa violators and anchor baby brood sows as nothing but two-legged locusts (and political livestock for our local commies).
I would not put it past The Deep State to use a hard luck case to stir up resentment.
If the guy was actually working, and supporting a family, then that is not the type you target first.
But they did, and made a public spectacle of it.
Was there no one worse to go after? I am sure there is...
The is a deep state hit job, using this guy as a pawn.
Hey! He can get started helping Mexican youngsters prepare for a career in the LFA!
By definition, being in the country illegally means he was doing something wrong.
Tell me about it, 30 years. Try not paying your taxes for 30 years and see what happens. It amazes me how immigration laws are so brazenly violated in this country as if they do not exist.
He knew he was here illegally... did he make any effort to remedy that?
He hardly speaks any Spanish and has no family in Mexico
So he would be like the illegals that sneak into the US - they don’t speak English and many don’t bother to learn.
I wonder if he will receive a warm welcome home /s
