There could be no starker illustration of the profound differences that exist between Washington and London -- despite alignment on many other issues -- than comments this week by our two leaders on climate change and the environment.
For President Trump, the Paris Agreement is a bad deal that will close US businesses -- perhaps even has closed some already.
Meanwhile, in London last week, Prime Minister Theresa May was launching the UK's 25-year Plan for Nature. Its flagship pledge is to "leave the environment in a better state than we found it".
The evidence is entirely against the world view of Donald Trump and entirely consistent with that of Theresa May.
My grandfather, Sir Winston Churchill, knew a thing or two about courage. President Trump is, I gather, a fan, having a bust of him in the Oval Office. Without Churchill's determination, the Nazis would have won the war in Europe. But this is equally true of his respect for evidence. You cannot defeat an enemy of markedly superior forces unless you have better information and make better decisions.
Were he our Prime Minister today, it is pretty clear he would have said the same things on climate change as Theresa May has this week. Because, simply, she is right, and she is acting in the interests of her people.

Wow, talking about dead people sounds impressive, until you realize you or anyone can make up whatever they want about a dead person’s beliefs. In other words, what if Churchill were still alive? talk is completely useless. How about read Churchill’s quotes on Islam, but wait, those wouldn’t be allowed on any news network.
That’s the funniest headline i have read in a while...
Hmmm..Just when you think that nothing can get more absurd!
See, you and I probably know more about Churchill than his pathetic, liberally-twisted grandson.
I can see explaining this to Churchill:
SCIENTIST: ...So, sir, if we don’t cut down on our coal and oil consumption by 1965, there will be a buildup of carbon dioxide that is going to cause global temperatures and sea levels to rise resulting in the extinction of all species including man.
CHURCHILL: Um...that serious? Really? Er, how much will it cost to fix the problem?
SCIENTIST: We estimate it will cost a few trillion pounds, £5,505,014,627 Pounds or $7,594,167,679 American dollars to be exact.
CHURCHILL: What! All that? What proof do we have of this problem? Will I have to stop smoking cigars or driving cars? Who makes these claims?
SCIENTIST: Well, we have a lot of scientists who are being paid by the government who are trying to make their case, but we think this is what it will cost. We estimated what temperatures were hundreds of centuries ago, and have been working on this for some time. I know that back in 1920, when we first became aware of the issue, we thought the problem would be here by 1940, but our calculations were wrong. So we changed the calculations to get the correct numbers, which tell us that it will happen in 1965 now, for sure...
CHURCHILL: Wait. You have no real proof? (buzzes secretary) ELIAZABETH! ELIZABETH! DID YOU LET THIS CRANK INTO MY OFFICE? WHAT IN THE BLOODY BLAZES DO I PAY YOU FOR?
That's it!!!!! Instead of spending 40 Trillion dollars, let's make a few missiles to destroy the sun! That'll fix it!
Exactly. If Churchill was for this glowbull nonsense, he would send warnings to the Nazis to stop bombing because “dust clouds from my destroyed city was harming mother earth”.
Dear CNN: Churchill would not rely on the media to tell him what to do.
Sir Nicholas Soames you are a moron and the reason your once great nation will soon be a forgotten part of the world wide caliphate. Go get help.
All three networks ran it
We only had NBC and CBS...ABC came in 1969 to jackson Miss
I remember my dad thought Churchill was the man of the century without question
Even though he presided over the disintegration of Britannia
He ain't perfect but you can't say he wasn't inspiring and determined< And empathetic
He ran his share of WWII alone some and at an old age while under relentless air attacks
And he was after all one of us by blood too
Don't forget
If he were a king he'd be up there with Alfred and Edward I and Henry VII in English history
I love him ..
I've read much on him and a good bit by him....he was prolific....his History of the English Speaking People's and The American Civil War are excellent
I knew his niece Lady Sarah in passing in Jamaica where she was often ensconced in Bogue Hill a few miles southwest of Montego Bay in a great home overlooking the cobalt blue Caribbean....kah Rib E An ....not Cuh Ribb ian She was in the same social circle as my then paramour whose family owned Red Stripe beer ...Desnoes and Geddes.....a tall attractive obviously Churchill lady who also was a Vanderbilt heir down the line...very entertaining lady who adored my petite blonde Jamaican love at the time though she viewed me quite accurately as a bit rough but southern which she liked Anyhow....don't bombard me with Gallipoli....Churchill knew damn well he and Kitch screwed that pooch and he never ever till his last breath lived down the guilt unlike Kitchener and Hamilton
My favorite ....he's feeling the weight of all Britain and her commonwealths and by extension free Europe on his shoulders prior to our involvement.
Precisely
beergarden, each and every day I read some thing from liberals that makes me think “Okay, this is as stupid as they get. I think we have hit the bottom with liberal stupidity.”
And then the next day I read something like this that plumbs new depths of idiocy.
Of all the things Trump has done, one of the symbolic things he did that made me stand up and cheer was his rescuing of the Churchill bust.
Too bad we didn’t have a bust of Stalin (that we knew of) in the White House during the previous eight years that, instead of sending back to the Russians, we could have issued as a bronze suppository to Obama.
Churchill would have put his cigar out in the eye of anyone stupid enough to talk to him about “climate change.”
They keep impressing me with their stupidity. I swear we need a CW to save the republic or we’ll end up like Idiocracy.
Oh? So you knew Churchill?
Soames was/is one of Prince Chuck’s toadies and sychophants who Chuck used as a proxy to wage a PR campaign to boost Chuck and marginalize/gaslight Diana.
I have to be increasingly reminded why we saved Britain’s a** in WWII. They are not worth much today as a people led by morons.
Nice.
