The kids are grown and gone. I live in the Northeast. I am looking to move to a small city or town or village. I am healthy, happy and adaptable.
I would prefer a place that has a conservative base. Every location on the lists of best places to move are leftist s***holes.
I am hoping for a place with four seasons, albeit, not as severe as the northeast. Elevations are fine, beauty is important, and so is the need of good, friendly people.
Any ideas?
I’ve only stayed there but Buffalo WYo seems interesting....close to the Powder ridge...
Really.
The worst part about the Villages as others have said is it’s pricey. Good healthcare is about an hour away in either Orlando or Gainesville. There’s closer options for minor problems though. And it doesn’t have the four seasons you want. However, people who live there seem to like it.
Kentucky gets a bad rap because they treat all vices equally. If you want to smoke and drink bourbon you got a place in Kentucky and if you want to go to church 3 times a week you got to home in Kentucky
I would seriously consider moving back to Gainesville.
We do too, but more than that, we have the most conservative part of Florida, least amount of touristas [for now] and the sugar white sandy beaches are the best in the state! The Atlantic beaches have yucky brown sand.
Lower cost of living, lower crime, higher educated people and the weather is beautiful most of the year...........
I suppose getting away from these elites is why youre leaving the northeast.

That is part of it. It is becoming expensive and I wont have as many choices if I stay.
We moved to Paducah, Kentucky last spring as sort of a second career in the ministry. We plan to be here 10 or 15 years and then retire. Great area. VERY cheap housing. Got some snow but not near as much as where we used to live in MIchigan. Didn't have snow until a week ago and it will probably melt this week. Western Kentucky has lots of hunting and fishing. Lots of water around...within two hours of St. Louis or Nashville or Memphis if you want to visit big cities (don't know why!). Paducah is small enough so traffic is no issue but big enough where you can get most anything and most big stores and shops are here. Overall pretty good area.
I second the Missouri, Ks, Oklahoma, Arkansas. Housing and land is cheap. Look around the smaller towns and you’ll be shocked how cheap housing is. Highly recommend the Ozarks east of Springfield. We have 4 seasons.
Sure Colorado could be great but their housing is outrageous.
Haven’t heard anything from Minnesota!!!
Safety would be an issue. There were some campus rapes when the child was there.
LOL!!
I only lengthen it so the yankees can understand me...;-)
Athens, Tn, great small town, close to anything you want t do
Reno Carson City Nevada area, most likely be moving there in a few years
- No state income tax
- low property tax
- low sales tax
At least compared to the s*** hole I live in currently (Los Angeles area)
FYI This is my first post, just signed up for FR
Just a suggestion on visiting potential retirement locations.
Visit during the worst season of the yearwinter or summer depending on north or south. Everywhere looks nice in the spring!
I’m on the river just east of Cincinnati. The medical facilities in Cincinnati are very good plus, plus, plus the Reds are going to shock the baseball world next year. The farther I can stay away form Louisville the better.
Mt. Dora would be a good place too. If we couldn’t live on Fleming Island I would like to live in Mt Dora.
Nice town. Some beautiful country homes. Close but not too close to KC. They just fought off a Tyson foods plant.
The Villages....Lawrence Well with STD’s.
