Citing a strain on overwhelmed health resources, Governor Kay Ivey declared an official State of Emergency in Alabama on Thursday due to the rapidly spreading flu epidemic.
WHEREAS the State Health Officer has reported that an outbreak of the influenza virus has occurred in the State of Alabama; and
WHEREAS this outbreak poses a high probability of widespread exposure to an infectious agent that poses significant risk of substantial harm to a large number of people in the affected population; and
WHEREAS the health care facilities and personnel of the State are overwhelmed by the number of ill patients and taxed to such an extent that care of patients may now no longer be provided in the traditional, normal, and customary manner nor is the utilization of traditional, normal, and customary standards of care possible.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Kay Ivey, Governor of the State of Alabama, pursuant to relevant provisions of the Alabama Emergency Management Act of 1955, section 31-9-1 et seq., Code of Alabama (1975), on the recommendation of the State Health Officer, do hereby declare that a State Public Health Emergency exists in the State of Alabama. I direct the appropriate state agencies to exercise their statutory and regulatory authority to assist the communities and entities affected. I also direct the Alabama Department of Public Health and Alabama Emergency Management Agency to seek federal assistance as may be available.

There are people who walk this earth and never get sick because their bodies are tuned to kill viruses. But go pay your tax to Big Pharma as you wish. It’s your right.
LOL!
Mmmmm kaaaay. Go run your theories past an actual doctor, who has to see actual patients, with actual diseases. Let me know how that goes for you.
10% effective is ineffective. This is going to hurt the economy. Millions of people staying at home and not going to work and not shopping.
"Captain Trips is a nickname for the constantly shifting antigen virus that exterminates 99.4% of the human population in The Stand."
Thanks. I was not familiar with that term.
It refers to the super strain of Flu that decimated the world in Steven Kings The Stand.
My brother is a doctor. But go take the needle and get pissed when it doesn’t work.
Perhaps so. I suspect a lot of the cases will be children who attend school and get exposed to more communicable diseases than most of us do.
Some adults will undoubtedly be exposed by their kids and community exposures.
Hopefully it won’t hurt the economy.
Lots of people handle that food getting it to your door.
Thank you for the further explanation.
I appreciate it.
I seem to remember reading that previous year’s vaccines can protect to a certain degree in future years for people who got them.
I cancelled my normal Christmas trip to CA. Would have been horrible by air or car, being about 2,500 mi. Glad I did.
Being retired, warm, and at home with dogs is great. Same thing for me this Christmas season.
Ask your brother the doctor about blood pH. It stays between 7.35 and 7.45. A little more or less and you die. You can’t do much about increasing it and stay alive, contrary to the food pH adjustment fad of recent times. Your brother will agree (or he is a chiropractor and not a real doctor).
I don’t have any special insight into the dynamic you address, but I did find this article that seemed to be headed in the right direction to provide good information to you on the subject.
I did not read all of it. I try to caution folks when it comes to medicine, it’s best to get as many opinions as possible, so don’t think this is the final word on it.
I got a bad cold in the first week of Dec and I STILL have it! At least the doctor told me it is a cold. It became walking pneumonia and now back to a cold. Or is it the flu? How can one really tell the difference? Or maybe I’m just old?
Anyway, if it is now the flu my best bet is to stay away from doctors and hospitals. Too many contagious sick people!
True dat. But it is the best of a bad situation.
I’m immune compromised (small b-cell lymphoproliferative disorder) and get sicker faster and worse than other people do.
Reference to Stephen King’s The Stand.
Thank you. I appreciate the mention.
Sounds like you had the real thing. People label too many illnesses as the flu. I had the real thing when I was 19 and it came on suddenly like you described. Two weeks of acute, bedridden illness followed by two more weeks of cough and recovery. I think the real thing typically takes about a month to recover from.
