Incoming Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D) indicates that banning private gun sales in the state will be a priority for 2018.
In other words, he will continue to pursue the gun controls that outgoing Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) pursued but failed to secure.
NBC Washington reports that Northam will be pushing universal background checks for gun buyers. This means private gun sales will be treated like retail sales, with a point-of-sale background checks required at time of purchase. Such a framework will require a law-abiding gun owner to seek out a government representative, a federal firearms license holder, and have a background check performed before he sells a gun to his neighbor, co-worker, lifelong friend, or acquaintance.
Other states that have outlawed private gun sales charge a fee for the required background checks. That fee effectively serves as a new tax on the gun sale or transfer, thereby driving the price of firearms up.

Gun control is also the main priority behind the Democrat push just ahead for majorities in the houses of Congress this year. We’ve already seen a few votes, where Democrats piled right on against our Second Amendment. They simply didn’t have the majorities to do it. They hope to get majorities in Congress and replace the President in 2020.
RASMUSSEN POLL SHOCK: OPRAH 48% TRUMP 38%... (Drudge blurb)

They’re going for the women’s vote, big time, and hoping to gain from Republican division between the West and the Midwest. [Immigration vs. Second Amendment as main issue, insurmountability of congressional stubbornness on immigration, West’s desire to blame Trump instead of members of Congress elected by them. They want the paradox of politicians like Schwartzeneggar and ejection of all Mexicans, too. Or more likely, both parties in western states are simply full of lefties.]
(Transfer between close kin or holders of CCDW excepted.)
Regardless of the many laws passed against such behavior, many inner city folks tend to buy untraceable stolen weapons that can simply be tossed or even sold again after use. Another law won’t stop them from doing so.
The only way to save VA is to get rid of 60% of the clot of federal government workers blocking the arteries of the body politic.
We were overrun by northeast liberals and illegal aliens.
The illegal aliens started arriving in large numbers shortly after W. was elected.
“The illegal aliens started arriving in large numbers shortly after W. was elected.”
Not a coincidence.
Bush League Republicans still control the VAGOP.
Their job has been to prevent us from electing anyone who would help in stopping the Cheap Labor Express.
Invasion and colonization by third world Democrat voters, both legal and illegal.
Several states have already banned private firearms sales to various extents and passed other gun control laws to make way in judicial circles for legalizing marijuana. They can’t feasibly take firearms away from addicts, so little by little, they’re working towards outlawing possession of firearms for everyone. That’s the way they see it anyway, and judicial interests (judges, lawyers, police and many more) have monstrous influence over legislation.
There were lots of native Virginians who voted for Northam because of his southern bona Fidels, rather than his politics.
I predict that if Northam tries to go after guns, he and the Democrats will go down in flames.
Bona fides. I hate auto fill.
More officers than enlisted lean to the left. It has to do with social policies in universities and what is taught in them. Same in administrative offices in Corporations, NGOs, etc.
As I discovered yesterday, they clot the artery of the public roadways too.
I ended up leaving about 20 minutes too late and paid the price on the Beltway.
Oh, yes— have lots of friends who cross the border into no state income tax TN. Thus removing from VA the tax revenue of a functioning plant with a payroll. Don’t have a handle on Abingdon coal regions— have they improved with de-reg of coal. Lot’s of closed businesses. Great folks in SW VA.
might be closer. Thought it was unusual for Gillespie to have an ad supporting the Confederate monuments. How could a true Southern bona fides say he would take them down? There is so much heritage of families there, not dying out, and dating back to the Revolution.
The biggest problem is the northern counties of Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William were flooded with Third World people who were given citizenship and all vote for Communists. Those same counties also have a lot of voter fraud by the Democrats.
Also, way too many people from Maryland and DC moved down here and they brought their leftist voting habits with them. There are now so many of them in the northern counties they overrun all the good people in the rest of the state.
Here in Stafford County (just south of Prince William County and only 35 miles from DC) the leftists have almost taken over. When I was stationed in DC and bought a home here in 1992 there were about 50K residents in the county and it voted about 85% or more conservative. We now have about 150K residents and vote 51% conservative.
The only good thing left in my county is the last Democrat was voted off the County Board and replaced by my friend and neighbor, who is a staunch conservative.
We have to stop voting for the moderate elites, they can not win elections.
The Virginia GOP is run by Crony Capitalists and I think half of them came over from the Dem party back in the 90s when they saw things were changing and they didn't want to leave the gravy train.
The election of Dave brat was great but I don't know how we can duplicate that win as the VaGOP amended many of their rules to make sure real conservatives like Brat couldn't ever win.
New York is much the same. Trump won 46 out of the 62 counties.
I thought bona Fidel’s was awesome!
There are still a lot of folks in Virginia that think belonging to the FFA is a big deal, and that anyone without at least a few generations of Virginians preceding them is an outsider.
I used to work with a woman who thought that her FFA credentials were a job qualification.
