I believe it happened about 12 years ago, perhaps a little longer; no prime time games on the last regular season week.

Monday night football typically wraps up in week 16.

The NFL exists to sell beer, trucks, securities and ED medication and selling that ad time has not been difficult.

Ad prices for the Super Bowl will be $5 million for a 30 a second spot and all those spots will sell.

“””What game was cancelled?”””

I believe someone has posted it was Dallas vs Eagles.

But do not take my word for it.

My NFL involvement is to convince my conservative friends to stop their financial support of what has become a leftist organization.

My Main Line Media involvement is to convince my conservative friends to stop their financial support of what has become a leftist organization.

My Main Line Church involvement is to convince my conservative friends to stop their financial support of what has become a leftist organization.

etc, etc, etc

College football playoff games that were scheduled on New Year’s Eve a couple of years ago had their ratings tank, too. Too many girlfriends and spouses lay down the law when there are parties to go to. New Years Eve is a bad night for most TV programming.

The lesson is.

If the team is in contention, and the weather is decent, people will fill the stadium.

Owners rely on butts in seats, concessions, local advertising, and merchandising. Players rely on endorsements, merchandise sales, etc.

Cash cash cash

But, just to be fair

* – Sunday night games in Weeks 5-16 subject to change; Week 17 game TBD

That was the blurb on the 2015 NFL schedule

NFL TV contract worth $3 billion (with a B) in 2011. I estimate that the NFL had 140 million fans then (45% of the US population). Assuming that each fan watched half the games available to him, it is as if 70 million watched all the games. So each fan watching 100% was worth about $43.

I watchED about 75% (Both Sunday afternoon games and about half of the night games) so I WAS worth a little over thirty bucks a year to the NFL until the second week of this season.

That's money they're not going to get back until they dismiss Goodell and reduce minority participation on the field to 25% or less.

If the Saints were 7 and 8 right now, the dome would still be filled. Remember the aints and the brown bags? People still showed up with brown bags over their heads. Down here, it's more about the party than anything else. IMHO

I think the NFL might have caused a watershed moment for football.

With all their criminality, family abuse, self-congratulatory celebrations, brain injuries, and unnaturally sized human beings, I believe parents are reconsidering if they want their young kids to become the tackling dummies in high school and college that these hulks need to prepare themselves to annoy us on Sunday afternoon.

Other sports are so much more accepting of normal sized human beings.

They should show “Heidi” in its place.

I was watching that game when they cut away to show Heidi. Which I stuck around to watch and which, I'm a little embarrassed to say, I really enjoyed. I'll never forget the crawl at the bottom of the screen during the early part of Heidi announcing the results of the game.

There are NFL teams with Season Ticket Waiting Lists of 20 min to 30 years and the empty seats we have seen a games were bad games with bad teams. The Saints, which play in one of the smallest and poorest NFL market, have averaged 70 people below capacity per game.

If the game is good, and the home team is in contention, people will go to the game.
